I am going through the tedious process of sending out queries. If you have any good "query" stories please post them. I am going under the theory that it doesn't hurt as bad when you know you aren't…Continue

My Life in China, 4th installment

I had been sent to Wuhan in central China to study the cement industry. The largest plant at that time was an old American factory purchased around 1930. This was to be one of the most interesting times I had in all of my fifteen years in China. I first arrived by train from Beijing and was surprised by the startling differences between the two cities. I was immediately taken by the fact it was so crowded, fourteen million people crammed into the city which was completely industrial. The first…See More

My life in China, third installment

After President Nixon visited China there were subtle changes. The Chinese were again going to open themselves to the west. It was not blatantly obvious but apparent just the same. They wanted to move forward but their memories of past experiences with the foreign devils made them apprehensive at the same time. I remember the signs, the sign at the Nanjing Bridge which had been started but never finished. The incomplete bridge jutted out from both shores of the Yangtze River but never meeting…See More

My Life in China (Second Installment)

I checked into the Hotel and was introduced to my China Travel representative. It was explained to me that Mr. Quang would be with me for my entire stay in China. In those days foreigners were not allowed to travel freely or alone. Mr. Quang was a nice man and very polite but I would later find out he was with the PSB, Public Security Bureau. At the time I found it odd that he slept in a chair outside my room and would be at my side as soon as I stepped through the threshold, but he never once…See More

My Life in China

I remember the first time I visited China, it was in the early seventies before Nixon had visited. Mao was in power and the Country was in the control of the infamous Red Guard. It wasn't easy then, as China had no Embassy or Consulate in the States I first had to fly to Hong Kong to get a visa. Even though I had been invited,it was days of Bureaucratic red tape and a lot of uncertainty. I finally got my visa and headed for Kai Tek airport.I had my first uneasy feeling when I realized I was the…See More

The Power Outage

There is something very comforting in experiencing a power outage. Earlier this evening a storm raged on wind, rain, hail and then the dark. It came down with ferocity as if God was angry and wanted to wash away our inadequacies. Before the final downpour the power went off. Disquieting at first, it is now both peaceful and comforting.Engulfed in the quiet of the evening in the dark, there is peace. I have no background noise, no distractions and no light. I am alone with only the illusions…See More

Beauty in the sky

Beauty surrounds usI am truly blessed. In my mind's eye, I see beauty in everything. Although beauty is subjective and must be shared through the written word, the artists brush or glimpses through a camera’s lens.I find beauty in everything around me. Today I had a realization of the omnipresence of the sky. The light hues of gray in the predawn sky bring promises of the day to come. As I start to think of what will happen in the near present day the sky bursts into shades of pink and soft…See More

Memories in a painting.

I painted a water color on paper which I entitled "White Nights". I had painted many paintings before, some in water colors, some in acrylic and others in oils but none held the significance of this one in my mind. As I painted White Nights, each stroke of the brush transferred memories from my subconscious to my mind's eye. I lost myself to a world I had left years before. As I mixed various shades of purples and diluted them in water, I became immersed in the swirls of the Neva. The cold…See More

Hi Dennis how have you been? I've taken a bit of a break from blogging - took a holiday etc, so I have quite a bit to catch up on (which includes Book Blogs). Hope the writing is going well? I'm interested in hearing how our protagonist from Purchased Power is faring...

Hi Dennis, I finished your book and I must say the ending begs for a sequel. I must say it was a jolt to say the least. I have been super busy and am adding the illustrations for the book, hopefully I will be sending it off soon. Having fun watching the kids at soccer camp when I walk Kona in the morning. those little kids are so cute. :) Really like your website.

Hey Dennis,

Everyday my shoulder gets a bit better and I started Physio yesterday, which is a bit painful but all for the good. Thanks for asking! Any info you can give me on this whole Rss feed, subcribe and follow me would be appreciated. I am not very computer savy, but I am trying to learn.

Take care and have a great day!,

Hi Dennis

Haven't been on here for a while, but logged on today and found a lovely comment from you! I've been quite well, doing lots of reading, as usual. Yourself?
Anyway, here's the updated review to Purchased Power. I added a couple of paragraphs in, so the whole thing is a behemoth now.

Hope you're well

Hey Dennis,

Thanks for asking, actually I just had shoulder surgery on my right side so it has been difficult to type. But I am still slowly adding blogs. Hope all is well with you.

Dennis, that is great advice, I sometimes overlook the obvious. I think it is because one thing I lack is patience when I get excited about my subject. I tend to get focused on one aspect at a time. I have been reminded often to stop and look at the whole picture. You can tell I am a novice at this author thing. Again, I appreciate your comments.

Hi Dennis, I know what you mean about missing the grandkids. I get to see Addi once a week or so and still miss her in between. They're our reward for raising their parents, :)
I am still struggling with how to get my next book out, I really feel it is so relevant what with everything going on in the world at this time. I have been told I cannot save the world all by myself, but I think I at least have to give it a try. I mean after all, its the only world we have. I am fortunate to live near the coast and I think it is time to go to Half Moon Bay and sit with the ocean at my feet and see what answers come to me. I feel that I must get this book out asap, but I am not sure which avenue is the best. Thanks again for your thoughts, be well my friend.
