“What is the point of having a Literary Agent?”

There is a difference between trying to be published without the help of a literary agent, and seeking to be published with the assistance of a good literary agent. It is true; to get a good literary agent requires the same effort as getting published. Some writers do not see the point of chasing a literary agent. However, there is a difference between trying to be published without the help of a literary agent, and seeking to be published with the assistance of a good literary agent or agency,…See More

Answers to John Magnet Bell from Elena Ornig.

John: “Don’t you think that, thanks to the gigantic leap forward that e-publishing represents, more authors will find it easier to target their niches and find a devoted core readership? Obviously, this requires analytic thinking and a knowledge of the market… but what about *creating* your own market? After all, each writer is a brand. Think about this: there was no specific market for Coke before Coke was created.” Bell from…See More

My appeal to the Internet world!

My general appeal to the Internet world!Appeal Number 1:  If you have nothing nice to say, then please keep your mouth shut.  I am not afraid of taking a hit but please spare me your ‘wisdom’, Mr or Mrs “Self-Appointed Critic”.  Did you forget that wisdom comes from reservation and humility?  Did you forget that “criticism” was originally a neutral verb?  I know that you have chosen the easiest path to satisfy your ego and it feels good.  Let me tell you what else I know, that path does not…See More

Elena,

I just read your appeal to the internet. HERE, HERE! Nicely written and I think I'll link to it for a new post I'm writing. Recently I read an Indie book that was not quite ready for publication. Yes, I could write all of my snarky thoughts and make a few people laugh, but I know that the person behind the book worked hard. I've been preparing a private email telling this person why I won't review the book, offering explicit details about what didn't work and why. I hope the writer will take it respectfully. I'll be interesting.

I hope you'll check me blog out and follow me: www.mymotherstuttered.blogspot.com

Cheers,

Ellen
