How I Rate My Books!

Since I live in Georgia, I will score my books by peaches.
4 Peaches means- Don't wait for it to come out in paperback. Buy it now and get it in hardback because you will have everyone asking you to borrow it.
3 Peaches - means- you can probably wait until it is out in paperback.
2 Peaches- means wait and borrow this book from a friend if you want to read it.
1 Peach - means, I would walk up to the author and pat them on the back and say something like "I don't care what everyone says about how bad it is, I am just proud you got that thing published!"

Shining Through

Wow! I loved the brassy, blond, from the late 30's and 40's, Linda Voss. You can easily picture one of those wartime posters of a blond with red lipstick and perfect hair when you think of this character as she interacts with the other characters in the book.
The love story comes first in the book, or so you think, and then towards the end of the book, she has her adventure. She becomes a totally different person at this point because she enters Nazi Germany as a spy, plus she herself is half-Jew… Continue

HELP FIND AMBER

I decided to blog about this missing girl because she is so close in age to my own son's and I don't feel that it is getting the media attention that it should. Not that I feel my little blog will give it the attention it needs, but at least it is one more place that someone may look and find information about her disappearance. I hope that Amber is found soon and is as she was when she disappeared.

If I had to narrow it down to one..... Jamaica Inn. I don't think a book addict should have to pick just one though! It isn't fair to us!
About Me:
I love books. I own membership cards to Borders, Barnes and Noble, Books A Million, and if Gottwals Books had a card, I would have it. Someone should probably call that show "Intervention" for my book habit.

Gottwal Books is what I call a recyclable book store. You can sell your old books to them and they will give you a store credit or cash for the books. Then other people can come in and buy them at discounted rates. Visit the website at http://www.gottwalsbooks.com/ or visit the book store itself!

I am a big Daphne Du Maurier fan. I also like Philippa Gregory, Paulo Coelho, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Ian Fleming.

I just finished reading "Life of Pi". I love these types of books. There is just this almost melodic quality to stories like this and it causes the book to have special rhythm to it as you read. It reminds me of "The Alchemist" because it too also had a melodic quality as I read it.

This is a list of books I read during 2007:
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows - Read it and liked it, I thought Order of the Phoenix was better. I have read Philliapa Gregory's "The Virgin's Lover",which is about the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I and Lord Dudley. Her books are packaged as romance
novels, but she has historically correct facts on the characteristics of the characters. I also read the Other Boleyn Girl. It is a historical piece by Philippa Gregory, not a bodice ripper like some books are! Just a good story and assumptions of how these people thought by the author. The Zahir by Paulo Coelho : Gosh, I love this author, but I don't like this book. I believe it is semi autobiographical and it makes me not really like him all that much as a person. He seems to have little regard for his wife or her feelings in the book. I just plain didn't like it.
These were my 2006 Books - The Lady and The Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier ( i loved "girl with the pearl earing" but i wasn't too crazy about this one) DaVinci Code - not too thrilled with it, The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman (Very good and an unusual romance in it), The Red Tent by Anita Diamant (I enjoyed the religious aspects of the book but I don't agree with her perception of how Joseph turned out), The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant (Boring!), Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See (A good book about friendship but I didn't agree with all the blame falling on one of the characters in the end - you will have to read it to know what I mean), The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - by far the best book I have read in a long time. Forever by Pete Hamill (this could of been good, but I think he let current tragic events effect his work), Ancient Egypt by Lorna Oaks and Lucia Gahlin (comprehensive study of ancient Egypt - really wonderful)

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Yes, oh yes. We are in and fairly settled. As settled as one can be, when it is incredible how much "house stuff" is necessary or at least feels necessary to buy. I have posted a few blog posts with pictures and information about it. Let me find a direct link...
