in regards to the fountainhead.. i don't know if i can even give you reasons that'll do the book justice. its written in simple elegance. most of the characters are that of wealthy families or have been successful and have gained loads of power. all of the characters also have huge personalities. they like what they like and in the most passionate way possible and that's, i think, what the society today lacks most and probably what i loved most about it.

and 1984.. i agree that it is fairly depressing but i wouldn't have loved it as much had it ended happily because in a world such as that there are no happy endings. living in a constant state of paranoia leaves no room for happy endings. i actually own a patch that has present day security cameras on it and reads "orwell was right." and its lovely. we're constantly watched and untrusted. the ideology behind communism is absolutely brilliant but its not possible. people crave power. i think you should definitely look into Aldous Huxley's novel Brave New World. its the COMPLETE opposite of 1984 but its a perfect example of another extreme. we can't have too much misery and we can't have too much happiness. both are destructive. we all need to find a happy medium. but both are beautiful and thought provoking.

i totally wish i could figure out how to use this website and reply back to what you sent me about 1984 but i seem to be having some difficulties.

anyway, 1984 is a really beautiful novel. it touches on some of the darkest parts of every day life. and its amazing to me that Orwell almost predicted it. i hope you pick up the book. i'm not a fan of watching movies based on books. how was it?
and the fountainhead- UGH! so beautiful. seriously. totally a book everyone needs to read.
