I can see why people self-publish!

I just received a rejection note from another publisher.  Now, I just wrote about this, and the suggestions and support are great. I thought I'd give it another try just to see how I'd do. In my other rejections, I took it in the spirit it was offered, but this last one, left me a bit irritated. I was told my genre wasn't a genre, my target audience wasn't a target and my word count would be a nonstarter for most publishers.  To say I felt insulted is an understatement.  My wordcount is about…See More

Discouraged by submissions to agents-I want to throw in the towel

I've written a story, quite different from the books I've self-published. I submitted a sample to an agent and was declined. This is my second attempt to get this book going. I can't afford to invest any more money self-publishing. I've had people read quite a few pages of this new work and I've asked for their HONEST opinion (I really can take it) and they've been thrilled with what they've read and keep asking for more. How many rejections is enough? Writing is my passion. I don't want to…See More

Publishers and promoting...

I am currently using Createspace and I like them. I've done two books with them, but I'm looking to publish a book of a different genre. It's a bit more gritty (crime drama) and more adult. My other two books (2 of 3), are geared more towards age 13 and up don't have any adult content (i.e, violence and naughty words). They said they'd publish it, but it seems like the other publisher I'm looking at offers a bit more "bang for the buck". Can anyone offer their experience with other publishers?…See More

New to the site

I'm new to the site and I'd love any suggestions on how to get my work more exposure. I'm reading a lot of posts and they are wonderful! I've gotten many "welcomes" and links to personal blogs and they are phenomenal!  Can any one offer suggestions on additional ways to gain more exposure? My first book is in a smaller local bookstore, but it's very hard to get traction other than word of mouth.  I like the advice about using quickfamesystem.com as well as GoodReads.See More

It amazes me how many posts on this page are self-serving. Why is it that the first thing MOST people do is say:

Hello, read my stuff. Instead of reading YOU and seeing what you need.

Funny that.

Hm. I might be getting confused here. Clicked on a "welcome them" link which brought me to what I thought was a post and saw the post below.

My REPLY was to go look at ideaviruses at Seth Godin's website:

http://sethgodin.typepad.com/

And then I saw his POST for the day. You should look at that one too.

Just found this guy but he's been around a while.
