Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Once again we are introduced to yet another Dysptopian trilogy. Over hyped? yes. Am I loving it? Absolutely! As I've said in a previous blog I had been on the "hunger games hangover" and Divergent had cured it. I was so in love with that book that the next day I got off work early to go and get Insurgent as I couldn't WAIT to see what was going to happen with Tris, Four and everyone else in the mix. Now she is in her "born" faction and things get even messier (oh yes, it is possible). I'm not…See More

Anna and the french kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Let me just start by saying that I was not convinced that this book was a great as everyone was saying it was. I'm always for a good romance but not too keen on books that are strictly about romance. I figured it would be the typical boy meets girl, they fall for each other, end of story. But I told myself, don't dis it till you try it. And I'm beyond thrilled with myself for trying it out! It was not the typical "boy meets girl" story at all. I mean yes, they do meet, and yes they're attracted…See More

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

I've been reading a lot of "feel good" books lately with fluffs and ruffles and I've been loving every minute of it. I've been trading books lately with one of my fellow co worker and friend so I've been far from bored. She lent me 3 books and I had no idea where to begin since none of them were on my reading list. One of them was a purple hard cover book with no sleeve so I had no clue what it was about.... all I could see was the title "Wintergirls" and the name "Anderson" on the side. I was…See More

Hush,Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Once again I found myself desperate for a great read at chapters one day (I had yet to discover how cool the library actually was). I looked and looked for anything that would catch my eye when I stumbled upon a book in black and with that had a guy with wings on it. I was intrigued by it and read part of the back and figured hey what the heck it's on sale, might as well get it. When I got home, I looked it up on good reads and got very discouraged when I read that it was about angels and…See More

Matched by Allie condie

What if your whole life was planned for you? From your career, to where your going to live and to who you're going to dedicate the rest of your life to. Matched is the book to show you what that life would be like. Yes, it's another dystopian novel with the typical messed up government and yes it has the whole "rebellious" teen that goes against what it's "supposed" to be like and of course it has that lovely cliffhanger at the end but this book was a page turner for me. I know a lot of people…See More

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Dystopian literature is one of the most hyped up things at the moment. Wouldn't you agree? Before getting my hands on Delirium I had read The Hunger Games, Divergent and Matched so I was sceptical about reading delirium for the simple fact that I was at a point that I thought "if you read one, you've read them all" type of things. But I was desperate for a book one day as I was walking thru chapters and I had read amazing reviews so I figured might as well give in. I am kicking myself for ever…See More

Forgotten by cat Patrick

*insert girly squeal here* Oh dear god.... why did this book end?! I absolutely LOVED this novel. Imagine forgetting your past and only remembering your future!? well that is the case with the main character in this book London Lane. Only a few people know about her "issues". Her best friend Jamie, her mother and her estranged father. Every night at 4:33 am, her whole day is erased from her memory. Before bed, she leaves herself little notes to remind her of little things and also people.…

crossed by Allie condie

I've been reading so many good books since April (back when I found my love for reading again) but every good thing must come to an end. And that was the case with the book crossed. I fell in LOVE with Matched and I could not wait to read the second book in the trilogy. I wanted to see where cassia and Ky's story was going to go. The first book didn't have lots of adventure or anything like that but it was the emotional journey that had me hooked and left me wanting more. The second book was…

Hi Julie, my name is Larry Rodness and I am inquiring about receiving a review on my newest YA novel entitled, "Perverse", published by Itoh Press in both print and electronic formats. Synopsis as follows:

19 year old Emylene Stipe is a 2nd generation Goth who, like every teenage girl, is trying to find her place in the world. One night she comes upon an old painting in an antique store and is compelled to purchase it. When she brings it home an image of a young woman appears in the sketch and then magically materializes in her apartment. Emylene nick-names her 'Poinsettia' and they soon become fast friends. But Poinsettia has an ulterior motive for her sudden and strange intrusion into her host's life which causes Emylene to question her whole belief system.
If there is interest I can forward an E Pub or PDF.

Dear Julie,

If you would be interested in reviewing my humor book, "Enlightenment for Nitwits: The Complete Guide to 2012 & Beyond!," I'd be happy to send you a copy. You can contact me at shepherdh (at) summerjoy (dot) com. Please see its site for more information:

http://enlightenmentfornitwits.com

"Enlightenment for Nitwits" is full of priceless gems. It a great read, hugely entertaining, laugh-out-loud funny, but salted with sharp observations about the way we live now, the foibles and excesses of our society.

All the best,

Shepherd
