What does "adult content" mean to Amazon, Smashwords?

This weekend I finished book two of my Peers of Beinan series.  Ghosts of the Past is a murder-mystery where no character (except, perhaps, Princess Anyu, the narrator of the first three books in the series) is truly safe.  Looking at my list of characters published as part of the book (indicative of the character lists typically included with stage plays), more than 80% of them are killed -- or possibly killed -- by the end of the book.I also have a certain theme regarding sexual violence,…See More

Cowardice by my princess?

I am writing a scene where Princess Anyu, having just discovered who murdered Prince Consort Kian, is in one last, desperate conversation with her older sister.  Anyu would be about 13 years old if she were an Earthling, not a Beinarian, and her older sister Leonora is about Earth age 17.Their mother has just ordered Anyu to leave the palace (as she is the narrator of the first three books of the series, readers have known since book one she would have to leave home).  Anyu doesn't want to…See More

Templates for character geneologies?

I need help finding a MS Word template for my character geneaologies.  I have tried a few and found that they all are limited to creating real family trees for real people.Because my series focuses on the complex relationships between nobles across eleven noble houses (there are also three named houses that are not noble), I've had to do family trees for my characters and work out dozens of generations of relationships just so that I have a basic sense of who is related to whom and how.  Get to…See More

Please correct my German

I am looking for some help from a native German speaker.  As a natural singer-songwriter, it is perhaps inevitable that my "Peers of Beinan" books are including more and more music. In one key scene, Princess Constance finds her father, King Kendric, murdered on the throne room floor, along with several knight-protectors and a member of his privy council, pierced by five crossbow quarrels.  This murder is especially shocking for the young princess (she's barely an adolescent) because her father…See More

Anyone had nightmares writing your book?

Hello all, I was wondering if I am alone in this.  I'm writing book two, "Ghosts of the Past" as a murder mystery.  Book one was very much a character-driven political adventure romance exploring gender politics in a feudal society in another galaxy. But book two (perhaps not unlike George Lucas's Empire Strikes Back) is much darker.  I'm finding it difficult to sleep.  I have to kill off several characters and constantly write all this mysterious stuff.  I'm finding it messes with my mind.I…See More

About Me:
I'm the author of the Peers of Beinan political science fiction trilogy. Writing book two right now; it's a little harder because it's such an intense murder-mystery and I'm very character-driven naturally. Graduate from the University of Nebraska in History and Psychology, I've been a medieval history re-enactor with the SCA since I was 18.

Writing outside of your comfort zone

My first book (released August 2012 in digital, paperback, and large print paperback) was relatively easy for me to write.  As a character driven author, Great Succession Crisis felt effortless as I let the characters flow through my fingers.  It was the EDITORIAL that I found most difficult -- cutting out scenes, condensing information, and making the structure flow in an optimal way.  In the end, I found myself completely re-writing the final chapter in order the build suspense, avoid…

To sign up for emails from blogs such as mine (http://www.thestuffofsuccess.com) you just go to the site directly, look for the email subscription option in the sidebar and complete the process.  You will then get an email from Feedburner (the email service) for you to confirm the link.

Virtual book tours are through companies that basically do the work for authors and get their books out to bloggers etc... to do all sorts of work for them - reviews, interviews, guest posts, features, cover reveals etc...  If you email me I can send you the list that I have built of tour sites.  thestuffofsuccess at gmail dot com.

And for me to review a book - just email me details about yourself, media sites etc... as well as a file of the book - pdf, epub or mobi (preferable).  I can convert any of them.  Then I will email you back once I publish the review.  I publish them on my blog, amazon and goodreads as well as twitter and facebook.

If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer them. Thanks Athena

Hi!

Welcome to Book Blogs! I'm Kate, a young adult author. My debut novel Taste has just been released by Crescent Moon Press last April 30, 2012.

At Barinkoff Academy, there's only one rule: no students on campus after curfew. Phoenix McKay soon finds out why when she is left behind at sunset. A group calling themselves night students threaten to taste her flesh until she is saved by a mysterious, alluring boy. With his pale skin, dark eyes, and mesmerizing voice, Demitri is both irresistible and impenetrable. He warns her to stay away from his dangerous world of flesh eaters. Unfortunately, the gorgeous and playful Luka has other plans.

When Phoenix is caught between her physical and her emotional attraction, she becomes the keeper of a deadly secret that will rock the foundations of an ancient civilization living beneath Barinkoff Academy. Phoenix doesn’t realize until it is too late that the closer she gets to both Demitri and Luka the more she is plunging them all into a centuries old feud.

Grab your copy now at:

Amazon
Barnes & Noble

I hope you enjoy your stay here! Lots of great people and interesting topics. If there's anything you might need, please don't hesitate to leave a comment on my page.

Sincerely,

Kate
