Balancing Act (Or How I Got Scammed by Lifetime TV)

First, let me say that I love Lifetime Television for Women. I’ve spent hours watching movies like Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? Anything starring Tori Spelling, Melissa Gilbert or Shannon Doherty gets an “A” in my book. Even after what happened, I’m still a fan. I’ve seen every episode of Drop Dead Diva. It’s a great…See More

My Belated Post About Mother's Day

I hope everyone had a nice mother’s day. I did; I was able to celebrate both with my mother and with my children. However, as much as I love my mom and my children, that's not what this post is about. I feel more comfortable expressing my love in a less-public way. Instead, I just wanted to share a three-bullet point ramble about my thoughts on motherhood. • A week after Eli was born we had his bris. Our family and friends were all gathered, and it was time for the ceremony. So my innocent…See More

How I Celebrated National Teacher Appreciation Week

Did you know that this is National Teacher Appreciation Week? Don’t feel bad if the answer is no. I’m a teacher, and it wasn’t even on my radar. I still celebrated though. Here’s how: Monday: In the afternoon there was an e-mail message from my principal, wishing the entire staff a good week, and telling us to celebrate by…See More

The Barefoot Book of Princesses

We’ve been hearing about princesses a lot lately; since the world is about to get a new one. However, whether or not there’s an upcoming royal wedding, princesses are a cultural staple. Little girls love a princess, and Disney is only too happy to supply lots of princess role models. Some people think this is dangerous, that it sets up a false ideal of femininity that’s connected to beauty and finding a man. I don’t know. Recently the Disney princesses have been pretty self-sufficient. Yes,…See More

The Kennedys vs. The Royal Family

This morning I was looking at the paper and I saw an article about the upcoming royal wedding, which I'm only aware of because I don't live in a cave. I said to Rich, my husband, "I don't get why people are so caught up in this wedding." "Because they're pathetic," he replied. Rich has never shied away…See More

A Good Ending

Last night my son Eli was watching a movie - The Ant Bully. This kid gets shrunk to the size of an ant, and early on in the story he is at risk of getting trampled or sprayed or something. Anyway, Eli is a sensitive kid, and he started to get scared, like he usually does when he watches movies. (Elmo in Grouchland scared him, and he…See More

Using Kindle to Create a Spark

Last January my husband gave me a Kindle for my birthday. How had I survived so long without one of these things? I know what the critics say… they like the tactile feeling of holding a book in their hands. Kindles make the reading experience too generic. They don’t want what they read to be battery-powered. Each book is an…See More

Laurel,

Thanks and umm, opps on my original comment. I was agreeing with you that the publishing world is changing. Sheesh.

I'm impressed with the stock photo, then, because I never find ones that nice. The cover of my novel is a photo I took and altered in Photoshop so that's why I asked. :D

Cheers,

Ellen

Welcome Laurel!

Hope you enjoy it here? it can be a bit overwhelming I am pretty new to this site myself and to the world of blog!

I have found it to be a great place to network with readers and writers alike, and being passionate about both this is right up my alley.

I am currently working on my debut novel, a Paranormal Romance called “This Life” which you can check out on my blog http://can-duu.blogspot.com/

Hope to see you there!

Laurel,

Nice summation on your about me. I don think it's changing and your statement sent me scurrying to your blog.

First, what a beautiful image. Did you take the original photo and play in Photoshop?

Second, I love the premise of your post, "But What Sort of Friend Would She Be?" It's a great question and I enjoyed the female characters you chose. I'm now a follower.

I hope you enjoy BB. It's a crazy but friendly place. I'm an author who sometimes masquerades as a reviewer. I hope you'll visit and follow me at: http://mymotherstuttered.blogspot.com/

Cheers,

Ellen
