Romeria in Salobreña

It was a glorious morning so we drove down to the coast at Salobreña to watch the procession of horses in the annual romeria. I particularly wanted to see the beautiful Andalusian horses and get some inspiration for painting and writing. I was not disappointed and I also came across an old friend Cantares (Luther in The Adventure Of Princess The Pony). He is the big black horse on the right in front of the carriage.I am posting lots more photos and a description of the procession on my village…See More

Dear Margaret:

You may not know me or my work, but I am the national bestselling, award winning novelist of six critically acclaimed novels who has been twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.

On Jan 9th, 2010 my debut novel, SUGAR will celebrate its 10th anniversary and in order to commemorate this milestone I am campaigning to sell 10,000 copies between now and that date.

“Bernice L. McFadden's first novel begins with the brief, poetic description of a crime so startling that the reader is helplessly drawn in, as if a bright red door stood ajar on a bleak and forbidding house. Pearl Taylor's daughter, Jude, has been found murdered and mutilated near a field at the edge of town. "The murder had white man written all over it," writes McFadden. "But no one would say it above a whisper. It was 1940. It was Bigelow, Arkansas. It was a black child. Need any more be said?" In the years that follow, Pearl catches sight of Jude in so many strangers that when Sugar Lacey comes to town and sets up her unwholesome "business" in the house next door, she doesn't know whether to believe what she sees in Sugar's face: a striking similarity to Jude, dead 15 years. In her sedate but supple prose--rising at times to a light, unforced lyricism in the description of landscape or character--the author perfectly renders the closed and protective society of a small Southern town, the superstitions, gossip, and prying.”

I’m asking that you purchase a copy of SUGAR for yourself, a friend or family member. And yes, KINDLE purchases count.

If you could help spread the word by blogging, twittering and Face-booking my campaign, it would mean the world to me.

Peace & Light,

Bernice L. McFadden

I looked at your books, Margaret. I think you are a very gifted illustrator and your stories certainly have a charm about them. Your love of the natural world comes through. I'm hopeless as an illustrator and am having my illustrations done by someone else, but I daresay it solves a lot of problems doing your own!

Margaret, I just got your books in the mail, the reviews should be out this weekend or Monday. the illustrations are wonderful! My whole family and I are all artists, my daddy teaches and paints watercolor, so I know a good painting when i see one ;) they are beautiful.

Thanks, Margaret, for your friend request. Are your children's books picture books or are they geared for older readers? I'm having the illustrations done for my first picture book at the moment - it's set in space and involves a sun and 3 spaceships!

Hi Margaret,
Thanks for the friend request. I am about a two hour drive from you in Mijas. I am in my 4th year of living out here in Spain with my family and I absolutely love it. As soon as the season starts I will be in Granada for the skiing. Good luck with your new book. I have just released my first novel “All In The Mind (The voice of Innocence)”. It is a gohst story. It is an exciting time at the moment, I have no idea how many have sold. I should find out in a week or two. It is available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, so it is out there.
