Announcing a new tween website

Hi all. I'm announcing a new website run by 18 authors (mix of indie and traditionally published) that focuses on tween literature. By tween, I mean higher than MG, but low YA. We launch on July 10, 2013. If you enjoy this genre, please consider posting about us on launch day. If you do, you'll be eligible to win a $100 giftcard. Here's a link to a google doc with posting info and a link to the contest, which is also a link to the site. Thanks!…See More

I'm intrigued by the arguments of writers like Neil Gaiman who propose boosting sales by making digital content free.  Last fall, someone posted a link to an article by another writer who makes ALL his digital content free and still earns an excellent living off just his paperbacks.  I can't remember that writer's name or find the article again.  Did anybody else see it?  Or does anyone have more examples of this nature?See More

Advertise? Where?

I'm curious where different authors advertise their work. I was new to self-publishing last year.  I published all four of my children's novels, and I've spent a lot of time building a blogging and social platform.  Still small, but growing.  I sell a few books a day, and I'm pretty pleased with the results of my efforts so far.  (It's HARD to balance life with marketing, lol.)  However, a few books a day is not where I want to remain.  Advertising is one avenue I'm just starting to look into. …See More

Tales of a Serial Novelist

I'm a teacher, YA historical fiction author, and blogger.  Just for fun, I've taken a cue from Dickens and begun posting a chapter from one of my novels on my blog each weekend (The Candle Star - American Civil War, ages 10+).  If you're up for a Sunday afternoon read, I'm on chapter six...  :) http://www.michelleisenhoff.wordpress.comSee More

Lord of the Rings
About Me:
I love children's literature. I became a teacher, in part, because I never outgrew these fabulous books. When I tried my hand at one, I was hooked! So what do I write? Here's three words:

Adventure - I won't read a book that doesn't take me to a whole new world. Won't write one either.

Innocence - My target audiences range between 9 and 15. Kids. They shouldn't be sold profanity or controversy. Instead, I rely on solid, fun story-telling.

Substance - I prefer stories with some depth to them. And characters who learn and change and grow can inspire readers to do the same.

Though I write for a younger audience, a well-written story is a well-written story. Many adults have applauded my work and asked, "Why is this just for kids?"

Michelle,

I was just looking around Book Blogs and found you. I was a classroom teacher, now  a stay at home mom homeschooling my 2 kids. I just started blogging YA and some adult books. Please stop by and visit my blog. I just followed you. Love the YA, I guess that's because of being in the classroom for so long. :)

Thanks

Michelle

Hey Michelle,

I replied to your comment on my book page (thanks again).  I wanted to make sure you got it.  Again, a couple of my more sensitive readers have said it was just the first couple of chapters that fell under what they would consider "horrific," then it was more of a "thriller."  Look forward to your response, even if you feel like you have to stop.  I have actually had one reader who couldn't finish.  It was a bit of a surprise (she was the head of the English department at my school), but I understood.
