does anyone else ever feel like this?

I have a few book series that I follow in the mystery world, and the thing is that I'm so excited when a new one comes out that I buy it the day it is released. And that's only if I haven't pre-ordered it on Amazon once I get word a new one is coming out. But then I get the book, get my fix, and it's over, and it may be over a year until the next one comes out. Then I'm really bummed. Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who has this problem?Like I just finished Cemetery Dance by…See More

buying from Amazon Marketplace

I buy a TON of new and used books from Amazon (and hear about it every time my husband pays the AMEX bill off each month), and remarkably, I've had incredible success buying used books in the Amazon Marketplace. But recently I ordered and received A Man For All Seasons, by Robert Bolt which the seller listed as only New. Now, I don't know about you, but when I buy a book that says "New" under condition, I'm assuming that it's going to come as stated: New. I skipped over a bunch of Used-Good,…See More

Now I can't trust NY times book people

Today I read a book that I've had sitting on my shelf for a really long time, Maisie Dobbs, by Jacqueline Winspear. I thought the premise sounded really interesting, and beyond that, the blurb noted that it was picked up by the New York Times as a notable book for 2003. I used to think that if the NYT picked a book as being "notable," then it had to be good. Not only that, but it was nominated for an Edgar award, the category of which escapes me. Some blurb I read somewhere said that…See More

new books etc

Okay, so these particular books aren't new, but wonder of all wonders -- yesterday I went to my local little dusty used bookstore and discovered that they had boxes and boxes of books that someone had delivered from another used book store farther up north from me. I had a BLAST rummaging through the boxes -- I picked up a ton but most of them went to swaptree.com to trade. I love that site! Here's what I came home with to keep:1. James Herbert, Once2. Chuck Palahniuk, Lullaby3. James Rollins,…See More

#60 for the year

I just finished book #60 for 2009, a book called "The Hunt for Sonya Dufrette," by RT Raichev. Last year I had a slow reading year, but hopefully this year I'm making up for it. 60 is a milestone, I suppose....we're not even halfway through the year yet.Now I'm off to my local Barnes and Noble to buy books I really don't need but see and want. Book buying is such a bad habit I have. I've always said that if I ever win the lotto I'm buying a house with multiple library rooms. (I can dream, can't…See More

About Me:
I am a book devourer and read constantly. I am here in FL with Larry. I like mysteries, mostly, but am very comfortable with other genres except for chick lit, romance, westerns, or self-help. I am a member of Librarything & Goodreads, as well as bookcrossing and keep a shelf at visual bookshelf on facebook. I'm just a reader, not a professional writer, and tend to say what's on my mind when I do a review. Other than all of this, I think mean people suck.

the Amazon saga continues and swimming against the tide

I posted earlier about a seller on Amazon who offered a book NEW and sent me a very used book. I asked for an address for a return, and then never heard back. I emailed again 5 days later, and got no response. I wasn't rude:

"Hi

I received A Man For All Seasons, which you had listed under "new" condition. I opened it this morning, and there is a ton of writing in it, and the last few pages are totally folded. I would like to return this book and get a refund, please. I skipped… Continue

eek....

As much as I love getting those nice, free books to review, I've discovered that sometimes I may have bitten off more than I can chew. For example:

from the Amazon Vine Program I have the following books to read and review:

The Walking People, by Mary Beth Keane

Tall Man: The Death of Doomadgee, by Chloe Hooper

The Doomsday Key, by James Rollins

Past Imperfect, by Julian Fellowes

then, from BookBrowse.com's first… Continue

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.
