About Me:
Antisocial misanthrope living in a draughty cottage high on a snow-clad peak. Makes the occasional royalty from his books, but on the whole lives off food donations left on his doorstep by passing mountaineers and superstitious locals who regard him (perhaps rightly) as some sort of god. Has been known to kill intruders with his trusty blunderbuss. Hates adults, children and animals alike.

Blowing Hot and Cold Paperback

I haven't received official conformation yet, but it appears the paperback edition of Blowing Hot and Cold is now generally on release. All the signs are there - suddenly available from various different sellers on Amazon, and the availability suddenly goes all to pot from Amazon itself - a wait of one to two months, according to amazon.com, which I don't believe for a moment. I think it's because writing is such a personal thing. When you write, there's only you, and the paper (or these days a PC screen), and nothing else. The ideas, the images,… Continue

On Writing

Anyone reasonably literate can write. Really, they can. At some point, probably everyone has, whether it's angst-ridden poems as a teenager, or love letters, or that elusive novel that everyone is supposed to have in them.

This isn't a “how to” guide to writing. Everyone has different styles, techniques and objectives. Some people are ideas people, others love the composition of a taut, thrilling story, with well-rounded believable characters. I don't really fall into either of those… Continue
