Bernadette Jansen op de Haar said… Starla,
Let’s keep talking in English, as most people do not speak Dutch. Well, I stay interested in the Netherlands because my mother and siblings live there. I didn’t study English but theoretical chemistry! However I have been an avid reader since I learned reading and I have worked in the publishing industry for a long time.

Rebecca E Boucher said… Welcome to Book Blogs! You’ve definitely come to the right place if you want to network with other book lovers and strut your reviewing stuff. Yippee!
I’d like to share a couple of awesome opportunities with you. First, Novel Publicity is currently recruiting bloggers for a gigantic holiday book bash. The prizes are insane and include $3,500 in cash, 3 Kindle Fires, 35 autographed books, and free eBooks for any participants who would like them. Sign-up and info is HERE
The other super cool thing I’d like to share with you is news of the ReaderShip. This is a great site for book lovers, because every single week there is a free book available for download. This week it’s the paranormal YA novel, Forbidden Mind by Kimberly Kinrade, and next week it’ll be something new. You’ll definitely want to hop aboard and see what else we have going on at www.the-readership.com

Georgina Morales said… Hi Starla,
I know your pain, many traditional publishing houses are not very open to different genres; I just happen to write in a popular and very trendy one: Horror. It's a genre that has always work best in the small and independent houses, and therefore, there are many out there to apply for.
I truly hope the season will bring lots of new, satisfied costumers for you.
Good luck!
Bernadette Jansen op de Haar said… Starla, I lived in London for about twenty years. I'm a publisher and I also translate from Dutch to English.

Georgina Morales said… Thanks Starla, unfortunately, small publishing houses have very limited resources and, though they do various forms of promotion, there is a heavy about of promotion that the author will have to take if he/she desires to see his baby's figures grow high. For me, it has been a great experience to learn from and I can't wait to repeat it, I just think that having different works with different publisher will serve better to get my name and work out there; now all I need is to find more people interested in my stories :)
How about you? Did you always knew you'd self-publish? I have many friends in the indy world and even though it is a tough act, I think it can be very empowering, too.
I wish you the best with your novel and I'll be happy to help in any way I can.
Enjoy your weekend!

Georgina Morales said… Hi Starla,
Thanks for stoping by my blog. Book blogs is a great place to get to know people. I'm also new to the self-promoting stuff; being published by a small independent publishing house involves a lot of it, so please feel free to ask for help. I'll do my best.
Take care, hope to see you around.

Georgina Morales said… Hi there, welcome to Book Blogs!
I’m new myself to the site but so far I've found it a great place to meet other blogger friends, so you’ve definitely come to the right place if you want to network with other book lovers and writers. If you’re a fan of paranormal fiction, please give my debut novel Perpetual Night a look. I’m planning to do a giveaway in the near future GoodReads (Click here for my Author Page). And here’s the link to my blog Diary of a Writer in Progress where I talk about my own experiences becoming a published author and review some books for fellow writers. I'll be happy to follow your blog if you follow mine!
Now tell me about you, your blog, and favorite books!
Gina
