About a writer's time and writer's following, there was a similar blog recently on another writer site, SHE WRITES. Also this is NaNoWriMo - for November 2012. I jumped in and I am very behind in my word number/stats department. Too, I have a blog here, but I have not blogged in weeks. No excuses...... am just not there. One thing about the promotions and the readership, another recent tip came up that makes sense. I am following half dozen writer sites if not more, so can't remember the…See More

Infanticide. This is a topic which brings up a memory of a distant college course I was in 1973. I as a zoology major and one of the required upper division/major courses was Human Ecology. The big issues for the previous early 70s years in biology and spilled out to the media was Stanford's professor Erlich’s population control book ZPG - Zero Population Growth. This title wasn't our text, but our text for the course was heavy with the same rational. One section gave a history - curiously from…See More

The Rich

The rich have been in the news since the “Occupy” sit-ins.  Well, further back than that of course. Currently the 1% is being blogged about and referred to in “social media” circles.  Is it important to writers? Possibly.  Bookstores are affected by the economy and market trends. I got fairly beat up on a social media comment reply that went five or six rounds. The topic was the 1% and their fair share. You can see where this was going. The other person didn’t believe my point. It came down to…See More

Character Names

Character Names I can’t claim originality on this topic. I replied to Joanne Guidoccios’ blog on this. This caught my attention immediately. It is difficult to be completely original. One’s character name is really important. Part of the joy of writing fiction is that you can make things up …. that’s right, lies out of whole cloth…. and includes names of characters. At some time in the far past it was all right to use common names if your character was written to represent “everyman” or…See More

Critiques

Most writers don't get critiqued enough. True some critiques do cut you, like some reviews. I think KIRKUS reviews can say one's writing is "shit" in hundreds of ways, some subtle some not, as in from "dross" to "mind dump." Most critiques are in the vein of what works and what doesn't work. In a writing class once, a fellow's short story was about a scene in Vietnam, and then in the dialogue the character used the term "gook" in referring to VC enemy. The critic thought it was distasteful. I'm…See More

On Blogging Brand

On the idea of blogging "brand" it has been advised as the best way for an author to build "platform." And so, while this now addresses more than one concept, "brand" and "platform" I may be violating this sage advice. In fact I shouldn't even be blogging on brand because my announced brand has been "conspiracies" and therefore I am straying into the writing problems of blogging. On "brand" of yours, it could be the genre of your major work, or a focus on marketing, or writing style. The…

Hi, I came across your blog, and I thought you would be the perfect person to contact.

My name is Jay Siva, the founder of EZBuyButton.com, an easy 'buy book' widget for authors. I'm contacting you today because I think you and your readers would love to know about the EZBuyButton widget I've created.

It is the most advanced 'buy now' widget for selling books. I make it free for authors and publishers, worldwide, to quickly and easily create and use our EZBuyButton widget to place on their website or blog to immediately increase the sales of their books, especially if their books are listed for sale in more than one retail store. I made it super easy, with just a few clicks they just copy & paste a piece of code onto their website/blog, and they're done.

The widget allows website visitors to select which device they'd like to use to read the author's book, and then select their preferred retail store that they'd like to purchase the book from. It also geolocates the visitor's location and will send the visitor to the correct country specific retail store so that they can buy the author's book. The widget is also fully customizable, and the author will have access to detailed real-time statistics of the use of their widget.

I would like to invite you to visit my website, and try out the EZBuyButton widget. I hope you find that my widget will be useful to you and your readers, including all the authors, literary agents, and publishers you're in contact with.

My website is http://www.ezbuybutton.com.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you. Thank you for your time.

kindest regards,
Jay Siva

Hi, My name is anita buice and I'm new to Book Blogs.  I would love to follow your work and if you'd send me a link to anitawbuice@gmail.com, I will.  My site is anitabook.com as in "I need a book."  I would LOVE for you to check it out and if you like it get ready to send me some books to review.  My address is anita buice, 202 Richards Street, Carrollton, Georgia 30117.  Then just look for the review on anitabook.com.  If you could send multiple books I would use them for giveaways to promote your work and my site.  I look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for the time and effort that it takes to make this happen. Blessings, anita of anitabook.com
