Hi, I'm a writer based in London, UK, and passionate about literacy amongst young POC. My debut novel is a children's book for ages 8+ but I'm told that adults love it too :)
THE ENCHANTED LIBRARY is an uplifting story about biracial orphan Max and his adventures when he is fostered by his grandpa and discovers a magical library in a deserted room. It themes aim to encourage reading, self-belief and overcoming adversity ("Yes we can!")
When not writing or reading, I love people-watching in cafes, good films, cycling, yoga, cooking and hanging out with friends.

One love!
I am the national bestselling, award winning author of six critically acclaimed novels.
On Jan 9th, 2010 my debut novel, SUGAR will celebrate its 10th anniversary and in order to commemorate this milestone I am campaigning to sell 10,000 copies between now and that date.
“Bernice L. McFadden's first novel begins with the brief, poetic description of a crime so startling that the reader is helplessly drawn in, as if a bright red door stood ajar on a bleak and forbidding house. Pearl Taylor's daughter, Jude, has been found murdered and mutilated near a field at the edge of town. "The murder had white man written all over it," writes McFadden. "But no one would say it above a whisper. It was 1940. It was Bigelow, Arkansas. It was a black child. Need any more be said?" In the years that follow, Pearl catches sight of Jude in so many strangers that when Sugar Lacey comes to town and sets up her unwholesome "business" in the house next door, she doesn't know whether to believe what she sees in Sugar's face: a striking similarity to Jude, dead 15 years. In her sedate but supple prose--rising at times to a light, unforced lyricism in the description of landscape or character--the author perfectly renders the closed and protective society of a small Southern town, the superstitions, gossip, and prying.”
I’m asking that you purchase a copy of SUGAR for yourself, a friend or family member. Sugar is also available on KINDLE. And if you could help spread the word by blogging, twittering ad Face-booking my campaign, it would mean the world to me.

Hi Karen, thanks for the offer of your book to review - very generous of you. At the mo, however, because of the age of my kids (1 and 4) I'm only reviewing picture books, and other books aimed at their age bracket, as the whole point of my website is that we read the books together and then do some fun activity inspired by it. Thanks again for the kind offer, and I'll certainly look out for your book in our library,
Zoe
Hi Karen, I was just wandering online and saw you are new to bookblogs. I was really intrigued by your book the Enchanted Library, as a kids librarian it's appeal is obvious, checked it out on amazon and see you have strong reviews, I will ask my local bookstore about getting a copy (if they don't have it already). Also interested in the fact that your character is biracial, I am starting to get concerned about the fact that our library collection contains few books that reflect the experiences of our kids whose heritage is indigenous, or our kids who have recently arrived from various African areas.
Our Children's book council recently gave awards and honourable mentions to two books that with the best intentions celebrate the culture and experiences of kids living in traditonal cultures, and they are very good books, I just worry that our kids are not presented with stories that have characters that reflect their own experiences and often multi racial, multi cultural experiences. I look forward to reading The Enchanted Library and good luck with the writing. By the way I really like the cover art, it got me interested.
