What A Wonderful World

Georgette Heyer - The Grand Sophy

Well, Book One under category "Georgette Heyer" in my 999 Challenge is complete. And to be honest, it was the perfect way to kick off that category. The Grand Sophy is the story of the extremely social Sophia Stanton-Lacy, nicknamed the Grand Sophy by all who know her. While her… Continue

Finding Balance In The Writing Life

My obsessive-compulsive, type-A, perfectionistic personality has struck again.

What a learning process. Not only am I learning a glut of information about writing and editing, I'm learning loads about myself.

My most recent bout of self discovery? I have a tendency to let my life get out of balance. (Okay, I already knew this. Now you know that I spend a large portion of my life re-learning things.)

Yes, I want to finish this novel. Yes, I want it to be the best… Continue

Introducing some of my favorites... Prime Time ~ Hank Phillippi Ryan

EXCERPT

I can't breathe. I can't drive. I have to think. I have to pull over. I look at my watch and calculate: no time. No time to stop, and no time to panic.

I read somewhere that new pilots aren't allowed to fly at night because they can't tell which way is up. They fly through the darkness, instruments useless, their horizon lost, totally confused and incapable of telling whether they're upside down.

As I head toward my destination, I know just how they… Continue

Middle-Grade Nonfiction Review: Chasing Lincoln's Killer

James L. Swanson’s book, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, has been at the top of the best-seller lists for a long time, but I hadn’t gotten around to reading it yet. I was thrilled to hear that he’d recently published a young adult version called Chasing Lincoln’s Killer.

“This story is true. All the characters are real and were alive during the great manhunt of April 1865. Their words are authentic and come from original sources: letters, manuscripts,… Continue
