I'm Back

Hi Everyone,

Just back from 10 days off and am trying to catch up on blogs and e-mails. Had a great, though stormy, beach trip and now have to get back into the real life and work day routine. Let me know if I missed anything important, please!

Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg

Steve Luxenberg is a journalist from Baltimore, MD who learned that his mother was not an only child, that she had a sister who was kept secret. His mother died before he learned the story of Annie. He then embarked on a quest to find Annie’s history.

Among the first things he learned was that Annie had multiple disabilities (an amputated leg, mental retardation, and some form of mental illness) probably due to low birth weight and being… Continue

Book Review: Nelson’s Illustrated Guide to Religions – A Comprehensive Introduction to the Religions of the World by James A. Beverley

The first impression that I had was that it looked like a textbook. It is a big book with over 720 pages plus 70 pages for four appendixes and it has a lot of charts, graphics, and photographs. It is a guide to different world religions, giving you enough information without overwhelming you. The book is written from the Christian point of view but it shows respect for the other religions mentioned in the book. The average person will find it very… Continue

CALEN-MY SOUL TO KEEP TRILOGY (excerpt)

CHAPTER ONE

The little boy leaned against the remains of what was once his home. He sat for a while and rubbed his hands over his chubby cheeks, smearing more dirt across his face. He drew designs in the dirt and occasionally glanced at the dead bodies of his parents lying not three feet away. He cried sometimes while he sat by his mother, patting her back and telling her to wake up. He didn't understand why she kept sleeping; she had never done that before. Neither had his father,… Continue

My Blog site

http://sherimcgathy.com/sheri/content/blog/

I hope you'll visit. Right now I am posting a free serial read, where it will lead and how it will develop is beyond me. And it is a as is, an older novel, half completed. or possibly less than half. It was written long before I knew or understood POV and head hopping and all manner of things. I decided to post as is, just to see the story finally get written!

eek....

As much as I love getting those nice, free books to review, I've discovered that sometimes I may have bitten off more than I can chew. For example:

from the Amazon Vine Program I have the following books to read and review:

The Walking People, by Mary Beth Keane

Tall Man: The Death of Doomadgee, by Chloe Hooper

The Doomsday Key, by James Rollins

Past Imperfect, by Julian Fellowes

then, from BookBrowse.com's first… Continue

Not-so-gentle Persuasion

Even before the birth of our nation, persuasive tools proved vital for explorers. Witness the story of Luis de Santangel who persuaded Queen Isabella of Spain to reconsider a proposal she had rejected. Because of Santangel's remarkable skills, Columbus was located and told that his proposal, after all, would be funded by the Spanish government. The rest, of course, is [American] history.

Skip forward 500 years. Move from the macrocosmic to the microcosmic story of Alex Chivescu,… Continue

New booklover

Since I'm here, I obviously love books.

I love to read and I love to write. Stories run through my head all the time.

Since I was little, I longed to join Captain Kirk's star trek and journey through the stars. I yearned to discover new worlds. To meet new races of people. To travel beyond my place and time.

Now that I'm adult, I'm a little afraid to step onto a real space ship even if NASA would let me. I'm beginning to sound like Bones in Star Trek - I might… Continue
