Review: Awakening the Eagle: A Guide to the Medicine Wheel

Author:

Ralph P. Brown

Publisher:

BookSurge Publishing

‘Awakening the Eagle: A Guide to the Medicine Wheel’ is a wonderfully illustrated book with eye and mind opening tales to allow change to the reader, if they are open and perceptive to it. As someone that tries to hold true to seeing the world in various ways, I found that I was reminded again to look at the signs in life to decipher my course and my actions. The illustrations are thought-provoking and… Continue

Jim Butcher The Dresden Files/Summer Knight

Once upon a time I was at the library and got a book, looked at the cover and saw that it was written by a NYT Bestselling Author , so I thought , what the hey, take it out and what can you lose, right. I took the

novel home with the rest and tried to read it one day, knowing this was out of

my comfort zone. I was probably in a bad mood because I couldn’t get a groove

on it and put it down and took it back on my next trip back to the library, not

having…

Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz

I am not sure what got me into this series but I just loved it! I thought that it was great. It was a little much regarding all of the history and the story lines, but it was great. I am going to continue to read the series and see what happens. It was about vampires- surprise, I know- and it was nice not having it all be about blood and gore. It is interesting to hear something different then what all of the mainstream stories have to say. I would recommend this book for…

I Am the New Black by Tracy Morgan

So I just had to read this book. I recently have become obcessed with 30Rock so I was dying to read it. I didn't expect much but boy was I wrong. This was everything that I thought the book wouldn't be. It was moving and great.... minus all of the political puke (just like 30Rock so I don't know why I was so surprised)....and I couldn't put it down. Sometimes you feel like crying and then the next page you are laughing aloud! It was a great read and I would recommend it to anyone. Ps, 3…

Frostbite by Richelle Mead

This is the second book in the Vampire Academy Series and I loved it!! It went a lot faster then the first one (probably bc I already knew who all of the main characters were). This was fast and again, it is not your typical Vampire book. I cannot wait to read the third book! I am fascinated with Richelle Mead and this is the second series that I am reading by her currently! She is great and I would recommend her and this series to anyone!

From the Back Cover:

Mommywood by Tori Spelling

I liked this a lot. It was a little better then the first one because it had newer information. The first book wasn't anything new to me bc I watch her show, read about her in the mags, etc. This was more behind the scenes to the Tori and Dean is Hollywood. I really liked it. I am def going to read the Uncharted TeriTORI when it comes out. If you like Tori, and you have read the first book, then I would def recommend this to you.

From the back cover:

Tori Spelling might…

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

I thought that this was a great read! I cannot remember who/why I got this book, but I am loving it. It is of a series and I cannot wait to continue with it. It was a quick read. I probably got this originally because I thought that there were a lot of vampire stuff in here, but it turned out to be about these things called "succubus". It was nice still having the fantasy and not have the usual vamp and wolves. I would recommend this to anyone......... Wait, I just looked at Richelle Mead…

The importance of that first sentence

I found this very interesting missive on the importance of the first sentence of a novel -- how that's critical to grabbing you and compelling you to stay for the rest of the book. It mentions a book I have always loved: "See Jane Run" by Joy Fielding. (In fact, in an interview with her that I read probably a year ago, she mentioned that this is one of her favorites! And she's written some great books.… Continue

John Moon A Bird's Eye View

I have been searching for different things lately to get me out of my comfort zone and try to shake things up a bit. I had been contacted by a British citizen a little bit ago on

Facebook that just happened to be the author of a few novels, each of them in a

different style. Me being a fan of Monty Python, The Who, The Kinks, Bend it

like Beckham, Rugby and a few other…

The Information Officer by Mark Mills

The Information Officer is set in Malta in 1942, during the second world war where Max Chadwick has been sent to boost public morale. But when it is brought to his attention that someone has been killing the local women and that it seems to be a British soldier, his life becomes more endangered than during a Luftwaffe night attack.

I enjoyed this book but was disappointed to find that the person… Continue

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson

I read 'I Am Legend' as part of my quest to read books that have had films based on them. I loved the I Am Legend film, for all its Hollywood-ness, and I was told by a friend that the book was really good, so I gave it a shot. It was a good book but it was very different from the film, much more horrific, and more of a horror story than the film. The endings are both completely different too, which I found fairly… Continue

Douglas Corleone One Man's Paradise

Right off the bat I want to put out there that this novel is the winner of the Minotaur Books/Mystery Writers of America First Crime Novel Award. I know, you read the jacket or the summary of the story and it is

another novel about another lawyer. Ho-hum. The surprising part of the whole

thing is that it lives up to its award and the central character, Kevin

Corvelli esquire, is actually a very fun guy.…

Devil Bones by Kathy Reichs

Devil Bones was another recommendation from my mum, because I watched the TV series Bones with her, which is loosely based on Kathy Reichs series. It follows the life of Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist, who works in both North Carolina and Quebec. In Devil Bones, Brennan is called to a scene where a human skull and various animals bones have been found in a cauldron in a basement along with several other… Continue
