Blast From The Past - Jeff Lindsay/ Dexter

I hope that everyone is having a good Sunday and enjoying themselves. We are looking forward to another big week here @ The Scoop as we get closer to the July 4th Holiday weekend. The novels we have on

tap for this week are a nice mix of fiction with a nice Guest Post thrown in

for good measure. Today though, I would like to concentrate on Jeff Linsay’s

work in the Dexter series of novels. I must admit I have not seen the show, I

don’t know if…

The Saturday Hustle – OPA

We started out the morning at La Jolla beach. Beautiful walk on the coast dipping our feet in the water and looking at hot surfer dudes. However, when we went to walk back to our car we both realized we had been so excited to walk on the beach that we forget to remember what street we parked the car on. I even have an iPhone app for that and I forgot to use it. It took longer to walk up and down the streets looking for the car than the time it took…

The Conqueror Series by Conn Iggulden

Like the Emperor Series, the Conqueror Series is also a series of historical fiction; this one is based on the life of Genghis Khan. So far there are three books in the series, The Wolf of the Plains, Lords of the Bow and Bones of the Hill. There is a fourth to follow in a few months time. As I've said before, Conn Iggulden is one of my favourite authors and I can't wait to see who he writes about next!

Janet Evanovich Sizzling Sixteen a Stephanie Plum Novel

I really don’t know where to begin this one. I enjoy these novels for so many different reasons. It is hard for me to narrow down a specific piece or element of Janet Evanovich’s work with the Stephanie Plum

series that I can start with as my number one. So I am going to be bold and

different today and just list the top 16 reasons why I, Giovanni Gelati of

Gelati’s Scoops, don’t just enjoy, but love Sizzling Sixteen and Janet

Evanovich’s style: ( without…

Friday margharitas and mayhem

Friday started off with us actually being able to eat before 9pm at night. We had a great breakfast at a place called Café 222. I had peanut butter and banana stuffed French toast. It was sooooo good!!

We then worked all afternoon until time to go to a boutique called Pure Boutique. This shop is focused on bringing in local designers and artisans. The jewelry was amazing and they had a cute line of Angry Girl logo’d merchandise that…

Edith's War - Andrew Smith, Author

Edith’s War – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat

“You know,” said Anna. “We all think we’re so clever. I know I used to be too proud. I had a good husband, three handsome boys who speak English

and get along so good at school. Three fish and chip shops, a nice house

– I thought I have it made. And the bang, suddenly it all disappeared.

When a war happens, it shows you we don’t know nothing. War… Continue

We’re movie stars now!!!!

Thursday’s trip to LA started off wonderful. Even the drive up from San Diego that took 4 hours (to go about 120 miles) was nice and relaxing. Of course it didn’t hurt to be able to enjoy the sunshine.

We got to our first stop, Buffalo Exchange, on Melrose Ave, no we didn’t see Amanda Woodward, Billy Campbell, or Dr. Peter Burns, and had a blast.…

Frenchman's Creek by Daphne Du Maurier

I read Frenchman's Creek by Daphne Du Maurier recently, on recommendation from my mum (who knows about books) and really enjoyed it. I'd read Rebecca and Jamaica Inn by her when I was younger but Frenchman's Creek must have passed me by somehow. It's a lovely story; easy to read and I would say fairly whimsical. A story of pirates, love, twists and turns.

Freddy

You may have noticed a new picture with link that I have added to my

self-published, the front cover having been designed by Amy. Freddy The
Brave is a story about an eight year old boy who is terrified of
swimming. Please continue here

Graphic Novel Friday Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files /Welcome To The Jungle

Right off the bat I want to say how much I enjoyed this graphic novel. It opened a door for me that I didn’t expect to go through. I have heard of Jim Butcher and seen his novels on the NYT Bestseller Lists but

had not given any of them a chance. What a big mistake. The graphic novel

straightened all misconceptions of his characters and his writing style out for

me. I am now a huge fan. Ardian Syaf did the artwork and is an…

My Book Review: THE MAZE RUNNER, by James Dashner

The first few chapters were a little slow to start - but once it got moving, I rather liked the pace. I also thought some of the "new" language that the author created, was a little awkward at first...but then I got used to it, and I liked seeing how the MC started to fit in, by using…
