December 25, 2009

I have to admit, I am beginning to enjoy Blogging. a few weeks ago, I did not know what it was. Now, I find, I can write my deepest self out there and put it into the world, and know chances are...no one will read it. and that is OK. but, I can review it later on. and that is OK too.

Christmas day. this is my 57th Christmas day. you only get so many Christmas Days to live through. and then that is it. that is why for me, it is so important to savor things. for me, the things in life… Continue

Dec. 24, 2009

December. Time for reflection and interspection. god what a fantastic year 2009 has been for me. I hope it was for any one who takes time to read this. I found my partner, Bill Krupinski, we had a great wedding or commitment ceremony. we had a ceremony right in our own back yard that was so beautiful. then we worked hard and Bill helped me have my papers that i have been accumulating....all set out in a book. Never in a thousand years did I think I would be a real author. here in the past… Continue

Review of 'Broken Dreams' by Nick Quantrill

Over the last couple of years, Nick Quantrill has made an enviable reputation for himself as a highly accomplished true-to-the-gospels (of St. Elmore Leonard and St. Raymond Chandler) crime fiction writer who reliably delivers precisely crafted plots, authentic hardboiled dialogue and classic PI fisticuffs action in tales suffused with an atmosphere of compounding tension which slices through the shifting dynamics and corkscrew effects of the… Continue

Review of 'The Unitary Authority Of Ersatz' by Richard Sutherland

You know when you are sitting there typing away at your new book and suddenly a million tons of waterfall cascade all over you and sweep you away, and there is nothing you can do to resist as you tumble mid-air among all those words and ideas, but you know that when you hit the pool at the bottom, and should you survive, you will be handed a tick-box questionnaire by the publisher which asks you which categories your book fits into, and you… Continue

Review of 'Dearly Ransomed Soul' by Avril Field-Taylor

Non-fiction is more popular than fiction nowadays. Within fiction, 75% of sales are accounted for by romance, with crime fiction taking a big chunk of the rest, and chick-lit roaring up behind. All these segments are dominated by women authors writing, I would assume, for women readers, so I am not exactly a conspicuous feature of their target market.

While the categories may overlap, their differences can be explained by how they… Continue

Christmas II (An Acrostic)

Christ is my Lord and Savior –

Holy is His precious name;

Redemption He brings to everyone, for He is…

Immanuel – which means “God is with us”.

Salvation is Jehovah’s greatest gift, for Christ overcame

The tomb of Death’s grave.

Mankind needs to accept this present, for Christ

Always desires to clothe us in His righteousness.

Sinners and Saints, rejoice in Him, this holiday season!

A Review with a Recipe for Tilly's Tale

As this will be my last post before Christmas, I wanted to share with you the latest, really lovely review that my humble little book, Tilly's Tale has received. Martha Cheves is a reviewer with a difference. All the book reviews she carries out are accompanied by a delicious recipe that goes hand in hand with the book. In this case she has provided a WONDERFUL recipe for DOG TREATS. Whoopee. I'm sure she won't mind me sharing her lovely recipe and her review with everyone, so without… Continue

Under The Dome - Book Review

Let me just start by saying that I am, and have been, a huge Stephen King fan for many, many years. However, I am not above pointing out when he has written a stinker, Maximum Overdrive, Cell, etc. I am glad to announce to you that Under The Dome is definitely and undeniably not a stinker.

As Mr. King has gotten older he has shown a tendency toward global human traits and subjects, such as love, compassion, and the human condition in general. Books that come to mind are some of his… Continue

Freezing in my office!

Boiler is out and it's 32 degrees today. Bundled up! Lots of books in my office - I will soon have to burn them for heat. Just kidding. Would rather burn the mounds of paper piled up on my desk that I don't think I will ever file.

Everyone's doors are closed to keep in the heat from their little space heaters, which regularly blow the electricity out. It's a comedy of errors here.

From the hall I keep hearing people knock on doors - sounds like someone asking if there's… Continue

Dead and Gone

The Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris is another one of my favorites. Dead and Gone is the latest book in the series. In this book the weres, who were getting a feel on how the humans would take the vampire exposer, finally dedided to came out of hiding. Sam, a true shifter (can turn into any animal) and local owner of the bar Merlott's, got a call that his mother (who was a shifter) was shot by her husband (who was human) and in the hospital. Sam left Sookie in charge of the bar… Continue

My reviews of some of the books that I have read recently.

7 out of 10 Are You Afraid of the Dark? by Sidney Shedon In this book all around the world people are dead or missing and they are all linked to KIG. I think this was a good solid book. The twist at the end was good. I would recommend this to anyone who likes suspense or thinks that the government has to much power.

This audio book was bought from Great Escape

5 out of 10 The Anastasia syndrome and other stories by Marry Higgins Clark This is a collection of short… Continue

Getting into the Xmas Spirit

We shall do so much in the years to come,

But what have we done today?

We shall give our gold in a princely sum,

But what did we give today?

We shall lift the heart and dry the tear,

We shall plant a hope in the place of fear,

We shall speak the words of love and cheer,

But what did we give today?

We shall be so kind in the afterwhile,

But what have we been today?

We shall bring each lonely life a smile,

But what have we brought… Continue

Question

Who in your life had the most influence on you as a reader/writer? I'm not talking about writers here, so don't say Shakespeare or John Irving. I mean who interested you in the printed word.

Aside from my teacher/reader/mother, I'd have to say our elementary school librarian, an elderly lady with the construction of a stork and a penchant for rococo jewelry. She read to us, and I couldn't wait to be able to devour those stories myself and not have to wait until next week to know the… Continue
