Four thoughts.

I'm scared to check my Amazon Kindle Stats. If there are no sales I'll be depressed. If there are thousands of sales, I'll worry that I became someone else when I wasn't looking.

Trying to earn a living as a freelance marketing communications writer leaves me too little time to work on marketing my Kindle book. Why can't someone pay me to market my book full-time? Is that a Catch-22 of sorts?

I avoided self-publishing for the last 20 years (primarily because I…

5 do’s and don’ts for self-publishing authors

Don’t get caught up in the excitement of completing the book, you deserve a pat on the back but don’t forget this is a business and it’s time to advertise. Furthermore, unless you plan to invest some extra time writing and letting others know that you can actually write, then your book won’t sell. Now if you’re writing just for your family and friends than that’s different but if you plan to make a fulltime career from authorship then here are my suggestions.

1. Most self-publishing…

7 Ways To Market Your Book

1. Market your new book online by creating a website with a shopping cart.

2. Sign up for a PayPal account to compliment your website. This account should be used to receive payments, as well as to make any business transactions that may occur as you market your book online

3. Create a Google Adwords account. Bid on keywords that potential readers might type into a search engine to find information on the topic that your book covers

4. Advertise your book online with a…

First Chapter of But a Walking Shadow- draft

Chapter One

‘O mother; mother! What have you done?  Behold, the heavens do ope, the gods look down, and this unnatural scene they laugh at.’

Coriolanus Act 5 Sc 3

It came again. How could I have thought that it had gone forever?  Gasping for air I croaked,

‘Help me, help me.’   The words crackled from my lips as bony fingers tightened on my throat, choking me, as I struggled to breathe.  It was as if my eyes sealed were glued…

Locked in on being Lost

I have a reputation for getting lost. I’ve been lovingly nicknamed Wrong Way Denise and rightly so.  Friends suggested I invest in a GPS. I tried it once. I didn’t agree with the voice emanating from the little box .How could they know? Their direction didn’t seem right; so I turned them off and went my own route, much to the dismay of those carpooling with me.  It’s true, I usually arrive late, but boy do I have stories to tell when I get there.

It’s no surprise then, that my…
