SPLIT SENSE - a review

Split Sense by Barbara Ellen Brink is, at the risk of sounding cliché, a real page turner. It is very well written; full of action, twists and turns, intrigue and a well thought out though complex story line. The book begins in 1995 with a frightened schizophrenic woman being chased and killed, but not before her twin babies are taken alive. Thus begins a complex web of deceit and subterfuge that centers around a pharmaceutical company that has been experimenting on pregnant…

Halloween Stories - Excerpts from Secret Lives

From Chapter 2 of Secret Lives:

“Aha, my pretty one,” cackled the hag in the pointed hat. “I’ve got you now! You’re in my power. You’re mine, mine, mine!” Still cackling, she held her squirming captive up close and peered at it until she was…

Looking for Something New in Historical Fiction?

A Matter of Pride by Linda Carlino is very funny and also at times, very sad.

In 1557 a prematurely aged, ill, and very irritable and grumpy Emperor Charles V retires to a small secluded monastery in southwest Spain.

He suffers from painful chronic gout, crippling arthritis and excruciatingly painful piles. He has to be carried around in a chair and continually washed and pampered with vinegar bandages.

Sounds like fun? It gets better!

He has lost most of his teeth and…

The Emperor Dreams of Barbara

A Matter of Pride is very funny and also at times, very sad.

In 1557 a prematurely aged, ill, and very irritable and grumpy Emperor Charles V retires to a small secluded monastery in southwest Spain to relive his political and military victories - and dream about Barbara.

He suffers from painful chronic gout, crippling arthritis and excruciatingly painful piles. He has to be carried around in a chair and continually washed and pampered with vinegar bandages.

Happy Birthday Barbara Joosse - February 18

If you were to ask my children to list their favorite things to do it would probably go a little like this:

1. Go to Grandma's House.

2. Have Grandma come to our house.

3. Go to a restaurant with Grandma.

4. Play with Grandma.

5. Mario Kart for Wii! (I am a big fan too!)

My children are lucky to have two Grandmas (plus a Great-Grandma, can't forget her) that are active in their lives.  One Grandma lives real close and the other two live somewhat close, so we… Continue

REVIEW: "Casting Spells" Barbara Bretton

FROM THE AUTHOR’S WEBSITE:

Sugar Maple looks like any bucolic Vermont town, but when the tourists go home it’s a different story–inhabited as it is with warlocks, sprites, vampires, witches, and an ancient secret. And I know all about secrets. I’m Chloe Hobbs, owner of Sticks & String, a popular knit shop where your yarn never tangles, you always get gauge . . . and the knitter sitting next to you comes out only after dark.

I’m also the sorcerer’s daughter–a single…
