Nastragull (Pirates)- Erik Martin Willén

This first part of an epic Star Wars type of production is very entertaining, often gripping, and well written. It is also easy reading, which isn’t necessarily the same thing. The characters are strong, and the main ones are easily identifiable and very memorable.

There is only one thing…

Looking for Something New in Historical Fiction?

A Matter of Pride by Linda Carlino is very funny and also at times, very sad.

In 1557 a prematurely aged, ill, and very irritable and grumpy Emperor Charles V retires to a small secluded monastery in southwest Spain.

He suffers from painful chronic gout, crippling arthritis and excruciatingly painful piles. He has to be carried around in a chair and continually washed and pampered with vinegar bandages.

Sounds like fun? It gets better!

He has lost most of his teeth and…

The Emperor Dreams of Barbara

A Matter of Pride is very funny and also at times, very sad.

In 1557 a prematurely aged, ill, and very irritable and grumpy Emperor Charles V retires to a small secluded monastery in southwest Spain to relive his political and military victories - and dream about Barbara.

He suffers from painful chronic gout, crippling arthritis and excruciatingly painful piles. He has to be carried around in a chair and continually washed and pampered with vinegar bandages.

Happy Birthday Bill Martin Jr. - March 20

Many sports fans consider this the best week of the whole year.  The NCAA basketball tournaments excite many with filling out brackets, deciding on favorites, and identifying sleepers.  The allure of these basketball tournaments may be because we get to watch student-athletes playing their hardest, as if the game may be their last.  For many players, it may be their last game.  Teams will battle it out with many games coming down to the last shot.  Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson…

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault

"Do picture books even have plots?" My husband asked me this after I had finished outlining a picture book in an attempt to learn how to improve plots in my own stories. The author of the writing book wherein I found the activity seems to think they do. To complete her exercise, I had outlined Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault which I had bought at Nebrask'as Plum Creek Literacy Festival.…

Book Review: Murder Melts In Your Mouth by Nancy Martin

I've read all of the books in this series known as the Blackbird Sisters Mystery Series and I LOVED them all. This is the seventh and possibly my favorite so far. These are light, entertaining murder mysteries written by an author with great wit and sense of humor. Please read my full review here on my blog.

Great New YA Fantasy Titles

With the success of Twilight, Melissa De La Cruz's Blue Bloods and Neil's Graveyard Book I've found myself perusing the YA section more frequently and found there among the shelves some wondrously magical new series.

Mortal Instruments trilogy
begins with City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

If you like Harry Potter you should try this magical YA series featuring Clary and The Shadowhunters, a race of… Continue

A Song of Fire And Ice (Series)

Author : George R.R. Martin

I am a huge fan of fantasy novels. My all time favorite is the classic Lord of the Rings trilogy, along with the Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien.

A Song of Fire and Ice series, however, comes as a close second. Finally, something in the genre that is different and so very refreshing.

What struck me most is its sense of realism. Mr. Martin makes us taste, see, and feel a world… Continue
