When was a kid, I often thought that having a birthday around Christmas would have been the best. However, I was quickly informed that it isn't all that great because there are only so many presents that your parents can afford. The house has been decorated with bats, jack o'lanterns, and spiderwebs for a few weeks. Candy that was supposed to be for trick or treaters has dwindled to just a few bars. Occasionally, the activity that accompanies our author birthday celebration becomes an adventure. We began the week by reading
