The Eden Paradox, by Barry Kirwan, is an enjoyable read that will be relished by fans of science fiction.

Fifty years into the future, the earth has been maimed by war and is near collapse from heat exhaustion. Scientists have already found the vaccine for AIDS and robot soldiers have quelled…

Why People Won’t Like My Book And Why They Might Want To Consider Reading It…

I’m engaged in a discussion over in the forums of BestsellerBound about why the theme of my soon-to-be-published book will make it hard to sell.

I knew as I planned and wrote it that it would be, at the very best, a niche-book–of interest to a…

Meeting My Editor And Other Strange And Wonderful Events

I’m going to have my first face-to-face meeting with my editor in eight days.

I just realized as I wrote that sentence that the combination of “face-to-face” and “editor” might have given a few readers a chill.

A face-to-face is serious, right?

Does serious have to mean bad?

The editor, that horrible person who has some perverted need to hack away at my pristine creation, tells me I can’t be…

Publishing Progress ~ the Highs and the Lows…

Writers, almost all of them, want to be published. Not so many years ago, the only way to be published that let the multitudes receive your work was to find an agent and have them present your work to editors who then might decide to work with you toward publishing.

There are many stories of writers’ works being published in forms that they really didn’t like; yet, they really wanted to be published so they caved…

To be fair, most respectable publishers worked hard to bring the…

Virtual Worlds ~ The Mind, The Book, & Second Life

Your mind is a virtual world…

A book you read or write is a virtual world…

I’ll get to Second Life in a minute…

An off-the-cuff definition of “virtual” could be, “just about as good as the original” but, from my experience, I’d say that virtual’s meaning can be very strong on the root it came from: virtue.

All virtual worlds have virtues that make them valuable whether we’re talking about your mind, a book you read or wrote, or a computer-created…

Read > Write > Publish > Repeat = A Wonderfully Strange Life

I'll start explaining the title's formula with the word "strange". Its

history shows it meaning, "from elsewhere, foreign, unknown,

unfamiliar".

A Strange Life...

So does reading then writing then publishing then repeating the process create a life that's

unfamiliar, unknown, foreign, and from elsewhere?

Ask any serious writer :-)

The reason I started this little explanatory formula with reading is

because I'm in agreement with the folks… Continue

Many Readers, Many Opinions ~ Who To Believe & Why...

Authors often solicit opinions from beta-readers--folks who read and comment before the book's published.

Thing is, different readers have very different opinions
! Who's right? Which comments need to be heeded?

In my own experience, with my pre-publication edition of…

December 20, 2010

Whether you're an author, a blogger, or a butcher you need to gain influence to have people consume your product. Even if you're just a nine-to-fiver with no ambition, you'll have no social life if you don't somehow gain a bit of influence.

What's It Like Inside When You Read A Book?

I wish you were sitting here, in front of my computer, and writing this post for me. Of course then, the title would have to be, "This Is What It's Like Inside Me When I Read A Book." Hey! You could write a real long comment to this post and do just that…

What Is A Muse??

Some artists have real, live inspirational helpers--people that act like a muse. Some folks swear

that the muse must not be another living person, that the inspiration

must be completely internal or other-worldly.

I favor the explanation of Carl Jung--the muse is the other-sexed,

unconscious energy-complex that complements the artist's…
