Minding Our Social Media Manners

Minding Our Social Media Manners

Good manners are made up of petty sacrifices.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Most of us have been taught the social graces necessary to behave properly in polite society; however, a good number has either chosen to forget or refuses to comply.  Good manners shouldn't be a cultural convention relegated to eighteenth-century romantic novels; people should always conduct themselves with propriety when interacting with others.

After all, saying…

Books Update

Hello everyone,

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve been posting mostly reviews and interviews for the past couple of months. And you are right. Since mid-October I haven’t posted about my books, namely my works-in-progress. Back in early September, I pretty much stopped writing in my works-in-progress due to publishing one of them (Freelance Writing Guide) and having a blog tour. I have no regrets, of course, because I was ecstatic about publishing a book I had been working on…

Writers Are Crazy. Journalists Are Stupid. Consultants Are Hell.

Pretend you’re in business and your building needs a new roof. You look in the Yellow Pages under 'roofing' and find just two entries: 'Ace Roofing,' and 'Lonnie’s Massage Parlor and Roofing Service.'

Pretend you’re an amateur genealogist.…

S.O.P.A. Is it Necessary!

Hollywood vs Silicon Valley; I’m torn on this, I agree; people that create original content should be protected let’s be honest Facebook and YouTube, have to much control they make it hard sometimes for small Internet companies to come up and they profit from material they didn’t create and I don’t see anybody really monitoring there policy in regards to online equality. But on the other hand sharing material is great and I don’t think these new rules will be good for business…

About The 1-2-3 Presentation System:

Want more business? Learn networking tips

We all know plenty of people who can help us, believe it or not, get more business. This is a GREAT book by the woman who is known as the "Queen of Networking." Lucy Rosen teaches you the tips (and there are great stories and anecdotes, too, which I always love) to take the interactions you already have and potentially turn them into business. I came across this and LOVED it!!! Enjoy!

The optimist says the glass is half full.

The pessimist says the glass is half empty.

The school teacher says . . .…

Review of "Outliers" - love the idea of 10,000 hours

"The Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell, is one of those books that really resonates. One of the "take-away" points, as far as I'm concerned, is the idea that to be great at something, you spend about 10,000 hours (10 years!) doing it and perfecting it. Isn't that a phenomenal thought?

Here's a review, that focuses on that very point.…
