Great Blog Hop of 2013

Hello everyone,

For a little fun today, I’m participating in a blog hop, which is an interview with myself about my soon-to-be-published book and some fun trivia about myself. I hope you enjoy it!

1. Tell us a little bit about the book you’re promoting.

I’m in the editing stage of my memoir – Chronicles of a Troubled Girl. It is a collection…

Developing Fun, Multidimensional Characters

I ended my last blog post with the promise to write about my process for developing fully viable characters. It's pretty simple, really. For me, what works best is to conjure up the personality types that I know from real life and embellish from there. I have read many tips about how you should draw from what you know. My new book,…

Vacations are just an excuse to write and create!

So, I took a vacation.  Six days....well actually four since two were spent for the most part in airports layovers, and airplanes!  However my four days of bliss were constantly filled with looking at things and people around me, hoping to spark the creative juices.  I have a feeling as I continue to evolve in my writing craft I will be ever alert for a clever phrase, and descriptive statement, or an interesting character!  These are the details that will help make ordinary writing more…

“All my best thoughts were stolen by the ancients.”
                ―Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hmmm.  What do I write? I have nothing to write.  Everything has already been said.  Every story has been told.  Every new character has been created.  There is not a romance or a mystery that hasn't been recounted.  Every writer, at some point in her career, has tapped her pencil in time to the steady beat of her thoughts of doubt and insecurity that all the good stories have already…

Writing outside of your comfort zone

My first book (released August 2012 in digital, paperback, and large print paperback) was relatively easy for me to write.  As a character driven author, Great Succession Crisis felt effortless as I let the characters flow through my fingers.  It was the EDITORIAL that I found most difficult -- cutting out scenes, condensing information, and making the structure flow in an optimal way.  In the end, I found myself completely re-writing the final chapter in order the build suspense, avoid…

Why main characters are often wooden in your fiction.

Have you ever notice that main characters in your story are often unlikable? Readers do not like a person in the book that you, as a writer, truly love. Why is this?

The problem is that novice writers often make the main character a veiled mask of their real identity. But, this sounds…

Channeling my Inner Teenager

In mid-November, a couple of days after I self-published my novel, Playing the Genetic Lottery, I was lucky enough to be interviewed on the radio in Honolulu by Carroll Cox for his talk show. I had sent him the first six chapters of my book, which is a memoir-style novel of a 32-year-old wife and mother who grew up with two schizophrenic parents, to read before we talked on the air. Noting…

This Treat is No Trick

It is no secret that I like Horror stories. I like dark, creepy things like

those under your bed. As I have said repeatedly, Halloween is my favorite

holiday. I'd say I still get dressed up, but I don't look much different than

the rest of the year.

With that being said, I knew I wanted to

participate in Trestle

Press' Harbinger of Horror
month-long celebration. I wanted to do it… Continue

Review: The Two Johns

Once again, Mr. Gelati is rather generous with his words about my words. Today

to say about my work.
