Shameless self-promotion ... I mean, great gift idea
For those of you sick of chocolate or flowers, or chocolate flowers (how could anyone be sick of chocolate?), don't forget that you can again order a copy of the humor anthology My Funny Valentine, which includes a piece by me, to tickle the rib of the one you love. If you got them that book last year it's treading thin ice to get it again, but then you could always pick up my novel Storm Chaser or its prequel, Storm Chaser Shorts, for the romantic comedy loving love you…

Words With The Big Guy
“Words With the Big Guy” was originally a gift to readers who bought my novel Storm Chaser last Christmas; this year, it was printed in the Christmas insert of the Albion New Era, Churubusco News, and Northwest News newspapers. The story was inspired by “Santa’s Spirit”, which I wrote in 2006 for the Christmas edition of my column, “Slightly Off the Mark”.
“Words With the Big Guy” features Beth Hamlin, a popular character from…

Nothing Says Christmas Like Storm Chasing
Hey, did you remember that Christmas is coming? Yeah, me too. One of those great things about Christmas is also one of those awful things about Christmas: finding the perfect gift.
Well, far be it from me to suggest that your favorite person of interest might like a copy of my novel or short story collection – oh, wait, that’s what I’m here for. They’re easy gifts, more entertaining than a subscription to C-Span and a lot less expensive than a…

Camping, or: The Crazy Things Humans Do
SLIGHTLY OFF THE MARK
The human race spent a considerable amount of its fortune and creative energy making homes more comfortable: Indoor plumbing, air conditioning, entertainment centers, and the ultimate in accurate brand naming, Lazy Boys. Then, once our domiciles became places where we never had to suffer (except during family dinners), where entertainment and food could be delivered right to our seats …
We went…

short story collection up on Barnes & Noble, Fictionwise
You know what’s cool? When you stop by to browse the Barnes & Noble website and discover your short story collection is now up for the Nook. How cool is that?
But wait, it gets better: Barnes & Noble is calling Storm Chaser Shorts part of the Storm Chaser “series”.
Series! Whoa … little head rush, there. Of course, the ten short stories do indeed take place in the same universe as the original novel, with the first seven set before…

Storm Chaser price drop ... wish I'd known
Somebody decided to drop the price of Storm Chaser’s Nook edition to $5.80, and Kindle version to $4.99. (That’s from Whiskey Creek Press’s original $6.99.) I don’t know who makes these decisions, but it sounds good to me.
Sadly, Storm Chaser Shorts is still not available for the Nook, although you can buy it on Amazon, or as PDF or HTML files at www.whiskeycreekpress.com. It took about six months for Storm Chaser to…

Medical Probes for Fun and Profit
I’m having a colonoscopy tomorrow, and it gave me an idea for how to increase sales of my novel and short story collection.
Now, hear me out.
As all fourteen of my regular readers know, I have a newspaper column, and often use my personal experiences as material to fill those 52 pieces a year. But the question is, does anyone want to hear yet another description of one of the most disturbing medical procedures a male ever goes…
