Review of "Blood Faerie"

A well-written, well-crafted novel – 5 stars

Blood Faerie by India Drummond is a fast-paced, dark fantasy adventure. It is based on a fantasy world where there are faeries and druids that have special gifts. What makes it “dark,” is that one of the characters, an evil and insane faerie, is murdering many innocent humans. It is also an adventure, because the main character, Eilidh, who is an outcast faerie, must learn about her powers in order to…

Busted in Bollywood: New York Meet Mumbai

When bestselling author Nicola Marsh wrote me a note about her new novel, Busted in Bollywood, she had me at “Bollywood” because I’ve been a Bollywood movie fan for years. I agreed to read it and review it if I felt it was something you guys would like. I was only a few pages into the book when I realized I was going to love it and so were you, whether you know anything about Bollywood or Indian culture. It’s a laugh-out-loud funny, universal story that I’m…

A Love Story with a Difference

A few years ago, I travelled to India with a friend who was a photographer to photograph the Bengal tiger in its natural habitat. We spent several weeks in the jungle tracking the elusive Bengal tiger, every day aloft in a howdah (a wooden cradle) abreast an elephant. I always had a love of animals, but spending several weeks with elephants I became more aware of this love. Part of my role was to record and write an account of our travels. I decided to seek out more information about rural…

If you want to know all about the civil society sector in India, then The Politics of Collective Advocacy in India is the book for you. This book included lavishing detail and provided a weath of information on the tools that activists use to overcome obstacles and the traps used to frame and politicize. The book introduces and examines a number of organizations and movements to identify effective tools that civil society actors use to achieve positive change. I reccommend this book…

City Lights.......... of Mumbai, Delhi & Chennai

Each city has its pulse, a feel, which is distinct from others. Staying in a place for small times like a tourist and moving around, that feel, that essence hits you hard each time. It is akin to the human sense of smell; sharp, pronounced and short lived. Many times you would have walked into a room only to be greeted by the smell of warm Sulphide (Ye Ignoramus ....somebody obviously shat!!), whilst others are blissfully unaware.

You walk into Delhi airport or even…

Food for Thought

First weekend in Bangalore, after a lost week and a weekend of rather, futile house hunting. I temporarily resigned myself to a hostel like existence for some time to come, and wait till about Dipavali. I am tired of looking at matchboxes for houses and eager agents ready to palm off any place as just 10 minutes from KR Puram.

Weekends, it seems are worse than weekdays in Bangalore for traffic, the same cars packed one after the other, with the only difference being in the… Continue

All up in Smoke !!

It was a ding time, a very ding time indeed.

This happened during my time in Chennai, pretty recently. Most of my

team mates, corrections rather the entire office seemed to be surviving

on a diet of smokes and coffee. Every hour, damm it, every hour they

needed a fix, for good living or for leisure or for habit(or all !!). I

on the other hand had earned the nickname of Biscuit man (quite an

improvement over banana, I think).

Anyways, I had never… Continue
