Book reviews by Colleen

Book Reviews, May 11th

It's been awhile! And I have some fun books to review!

The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen: Allen is one of my favorite authors, mostly because she wrote "Garden Spells", which is probably in my top twenty books. She writes with a Southern flair, mixing romance, humor, cooking or gardening, all with a little hint of magic. Just a hint, like you squeezed a magic lemon into a pitcher of iced tea. The Peach Keeper, however, was more disappointing than… Continue

My Belated Post About Mother's Day

I hope everyone had a nice mother’s day. I did; I was able to celebrate both with my mother and with my children. However, as much as I love my mom and my children, that's not what this post is about. I feel more comfortable expressing my love in a less-public way. Instead, I just wanted to share a three-bullet point ramble about my thoughts on motherhood.

• A week after Eli was born we had his bris. Our family and friends were all gathered, and it was time for the ceremony. So my… Continue

Too Good/No Control

1.

My beginning: No control.

Outside the window, the cold wind is howling and whipping back forth. Inside, deafening electronic music is pounding while dozens of drunken college kids slam their heads and blow their fists in the air. Steaming red lights beam into the room as half-drunk girls sip from their red cups and drift their eyes across the room, trying to latch on to something. Inside, the walls are cheap, paint chips crumbling and tumbling off.…

Heart-Boosting Poetry

Why did you have to tell a lie?

I think of you sometimes when I'm stressed and all alone.

That's the reason that I  break down and call you on the phone.

I know that if there were any feelings there, now you are in another zone.

I didn't matter one way or another so, it's your fault that I'm gone.

You took my love, gnawned on it like a dog with a…

The Quest of Life. From Ghost of a Rose

The Quest Of Life (prelude)

Where does it come from.....this need to be different....to be special?

I’ve spent the majority of my life pursuing success, believing that true happiness was based on achievements, wealth and fame. I have obtained all of them several times in my life. Whenever I would achieve a goal, I was still left feeling unfulfilled and moved on to something new. Searching for something, but what was it I was looking for? I…

Hello everyone

I joined recently and looking forward to "meeting" a lot of interesting people here... writers, travelers, photographers, journalists in the best sense of the word.   I have been running a series of sites since 1999, evolving over time.  I'm a photographer and writer.  I've been to around 27 countries and 40 states.

I read a lot of books and talk to a lot of people.   Just got back from the London Book Fair and some other business in UK.

Hello from a new author who is new to Book Blogs!

Please bear with me as I'm learning as I go here.  I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself to Book Blogs world.  I'm a 32 year old Mom of two who has recently dipped my toe into the world of publishing.  My first book, Convergence, was my first attempt at writing something original after spending a couple of years playing around with other people's characters and posting online in forums devoted to these kinds of works.  The time I spent doing that was priceless as it helped so much…
