When Writing about Sex Vampires is "Writing What You Know"

I had been writing plays for so long, but after having a family and moving away from NY, I lost interest in workshopping plays and spending hours working with actors and creating something for an audience.  I had written a play that might have been too big for a non musical stage and decided to turn it into a novel.  That novel turned into a life's work of trying to perfect a very complicated theme and story.

New book "Robbed and Raped by my Two Fathers." By Noel Linton Allen.

I'm trying to find people who were raped by Roman Catholic priests 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, or over 50 years ago.  I was raped by a R.C. priest when I was 11.  I recently came forward and got a cash settlement.  This is a landmark case as it was way outside the statute of limitations.  I want to encourage other victims to come forward and follow my footsteps to indemnity.  There is an experienced lawyer ready to champion your case.  Don't delay; come forward today; identify the rapist and be…

Hey, Candace Bushnell Fans...

I just received a sweet review from best-selling author Jan Moran (posting as Ann Hammons) for Between Boyfriends.

5 stars -- Between Boyfriends is a delicious slice of chick-lit! Snappy dialogue sets this story apart from the pack as it follows a young woman who, financially cut off by her parents when she fails to attend school, learns that life is more than her …

Something on my Mind

You know how you get when you haven’t had something in a while. You start thinking about it all the time. Wondering, how will I get that? When will I get that?

That thing becomes an obsession.

I want it. No, I need it.

Luckily for authors, when we want something, all we have to do is write about it. Once the words are on the page, they are as good as real to us. That desire is fulfilled. We have gotten that thing we…

More S3X is better than no S3X

About a year ago, I put out a little story called A Vampire's Guide to Sex. It was my little poke at genre writing. I had my fill of those books/movies whose title references the setting sun. When I learned that the pop phenomena had glittering vampires, I could feel the heat of Bram Stoker spinning in his grave half way around the world.…

Can Your Frog Be A Friend With Benefits?

So you want sex, but not a relationship? The texts drill into your phone: ‘want to hook up’ … ‘what are you wearing?’… ‘you are so sexy’’come to my office at 10’  He is hot and your are…LONELY. And you figure that a ‘hook up’ might satisfy that itch. In fact, you reason, if men can do it, why can’t I? Hell, you rationalize that having great sex with your friend will be a great way to have your cake without any commitment. You like him; you can hang out; you can…

Like what you see?

I wake up, at no particular set time, and make my way to the bathroom for the morning (or maybe early afternoon) duties.

I look in the mirror, steamed over from a skin-reddening hot shower. Like any of us, I sometimes ask, "Do I like what I see?"

"Sure." The answer is usually, "Sure, I'm fine with that." Most of the time, the thoughts do not travel much beyond that point.

Today, they did. Today, the wet smear of my handprint revealed a face I did not recognize in that dubious…

Devil's in the Detail character outline

I thought that I had better give a quick outline of my Character Hoyt Lee from Devil's in the Detail. This is not in the book I simple drew from this reference throughout the book:

Born into a cult and largely overlooked by his parents, as they were by their own parents before them. Hoyt had been left with an empty heart. The chain of carefree parenting had been slowly untangling for generations as, one after the other, each successive generation of progeny were born and then…

Hot & Spicy Hello

Great New Thriller

Hello Folks,

Check out my new psychological thriller about how American will go down.  The Apostle John outlines end time events in the book of Revelation, but leaves out those things spoken by the Seven Thunders in Rev 10:4.  Do you want to know what they said and the horrors that lie ahead?  Here's a brief view:  Angels slaughter mankind without mercy.  There is no defense against an invisible enemy, but government leaders must try to halt the genocide.  The lead…

Facebook Fan Page

I just put together a Facebook fan page for Author Neil D. Ostroff. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Facebook-Page-of-Author-Neil-D-Ostroff/124794694205967?sk=info

I sent out a bunch of notices through social marketing and guess what? I already have almost 2,000 likes. The internet is just amazing! Anyway, I’ve got everything in place for my winter marketing blitz. I’ve got programmers and search engine specialist listing my book sites, I’ve…

Starting now!

It’s done! I’ve just put money into promotion. A pretty good chunk, actually. I’m starting with Kindle Nation Daily site. I’ve done some research and heard a lot of positive things about this site and what it can do for your sales. They even have a statistics page that shows you all the books whose ranking went down after placing ads. I signed up for two campaigns. One, the bigger one, won’t start until March, which is fine because hopefully there’ll be many more Kindle owners by then. The…

Going for it!!

My brother sent me an article the other day that inspired me beyond belief. I’ll attach it at the end of this post. Basically, it’s the story of a self-published success. I know, I know, I’ve read a thousand of them, also. But this one struck me different, mainly because this author did everything I have done to market and promote with one exception. She used the pay promotion on her sites and I have not. See, I’ve been mistakenly foolish with my numbers. I was putting book sales in…

Love the interview!

Been doing the interview thing a lot lately and I think it’s starting to pay off. Not only does my name come up more often in search engines but I’m noticing visits to my blog and website are increasing. Of course, this could also be the result of my article experiment, which I’m waiting for the final stats. Speaking of my Author’s Den website, I recently signed on with GoDaddy to build a website myself that I can update, and let me tell you, it’s not nearly as easy as they claim. I spent…
