Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Why? This question ran through my mind as I read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. For example, why did Anderson portray her main character Melinda as a sarcastic and therefore sometimes unlikeable teenager? Or, why did Anderson keep readers in the dark until partway through her novel about the incident that changed Melinda’s life? Boyfriend from Hell by E. Van Lowe
Even though horror is not my typical read, I’ve already started telling my adolescent siblings about Boyfriend from Hell. This book has something for both genders. It has romance, mixed in with the ups and downs of high school friendships and mother-daughter relationships. It has horror and mystery, mixed in with sports talk. Girl vs Ghost by Kate McMurry and Marie August
Ghosts, witches, angels, and demons! Girl vs. Ghost by Kate McMurry and Marie August is not my typical fantasy. Normally, I read about princes and princesses, fairies and changelings, gods and goddesses, and magic creatures and other lands. Girl vs. Ghost is part comedy, part romance, and part paranormal.
