There has recently been a lot of media hype about this book. I had heard great things about it but not so many details about the plot (which I prefer before reading anything). I was lent a copy of this and can safely say that I was not seen for two days. I was absolutely swept away with this novel. It was graphic, harsh, intense and written in such a way that you forgot you were reading. In fact, I don’t think I intend to…

OLD MAGIC

http://www.aliciapedersen.com/?page_id=270
I was quite excited about reading this book as I am getting sick of ordinary fantasy and wanted something with a little bit of bite. I came across this in the book store and was drawn in by the cover which is actually (in New Zealand) a picture of a girl close-up with the 'O' representing the O…

This book started off in a bit of a rush and even throughout the book I felt like there could have been more input into describing the characters; what they look like, more depth into what they are thinking and feeling. However, as the story built up I realised I couldn't pu this book down. In fact, what this novel lacked in descriptions it made up for in plot and the style of writing. If you are looking for a light read that doesn't disapoint this is the one for you. Alyxandra does a…

Firstly, Melissa de la Cruz flawlessly executes her first edition to the Blue Bloods series. By incorporating both the past and present she implements a great theme for this novel. Having read a few P.C. Cast books in the past it was expected that this novel would be very descriptive, rich and have strong characters. Upon first reading this novel P.C. Cast does not disappoint. With the
added element of having her daughter Kristin on board this makes for a
good read. I…

This story captures you from the very beginning and is an enticing tale about Rhode Island in the 1960s. The novel is based around three main characters; Alexandra, Jane and Sukie who are witches. Their lives and those of the towns people are disrupted by an unusual individual,
Darryl Van Horne. John Updike does an amazing job of describing each woman’s feelings towards Darryl. The narrative is quite enthralling and as the book continues you feel that each character…

When the story begins in Evernight, Bianca has just left the small town where she’s spent her whole life. She’s a new student at Evernight Academy, a creepily Gothic boarding school where her classmates are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn’t fit in.…
