Book Review - The Serotonin Power Diet

The Serotonin Power Diet by Judith J. Wurtman, PhD. and Nina T. Frusztajer, MD. explains what serotonin is and why it can help you with your food cravings. Serotonin is the substance that makes you not be hungry. It also prevents you from overeating when you are stressed out. This book guides you through a 12 week program.

The first thing in the program is that you have to snack. This is one thing that most diets eliminate. Phase 1 lasts 2… Continue

One Hundred Butterflies By Harold Feinstein and Fred Gagnon

This is one beautiful book. I was very impressed at the quality of the book. It is has 128 pages of which 100 are the butterflies. My first impression when opening this book was amazing, as it displays the butterflies against a black background... it is breathtaking.

Each butterfly was photographed against a black background which brings its beauty out quite clear. You can see even the transparency of the wings in… Continue

NORMAN ROCKWELL: BEHIND THE CAMERA By Ron Schick

This book will bring good memories to baby boomers. My parents subscribed to the Saturday Evening Post and every month it would arrive with a new cover from Norman Rockwell. I grew up thinking that was the way life in the United States was all about -- very idyllic view.

The book covers the way Norman Rockwell created his covers by taking pictures of the different aspects of his design. Once he captured the parts he… Continue

How to Roast a Lamb by Michael Psilakis

When I saw this book, I was impressed by its look. Big and Pretty. I love greek food so I though that the best way to review this book was to cook a meal from it. I opened the pages randomly and selected my dishes. I am not a great cook but can follow instructions very well. I crossed my fingers and wished for the best.

The first dish that I tried was on page 55, Roasted Scallops with Cauliflower, Tart Dried Cherries… Continue

Jungle Jack's The Wackiest, Wildest, and Weirdest Animals in the World by Jack Hanna

This book is a great read for children. The book covers thirty different animals and tells interesting facts about each one. Each page focuses on a different animal and the characteristics that make it wacky, wild, or weird. There is a great variety of animals, from lions and elephants to echidna and binturongs, and the pictures included are enjoyable to look at. There are at least three or four pictures of each animal on each… Continue

Annie's Ghosts by Steve Luxenberg

Steve Luxenberg is a journalist from Baltimore, MD who learned that his mother was not an only child, that she had a sister who was kept secret. His mother died before he learned the story of Annie. He then embarked on a quest to find Annie’s history.

Among the first things he learned was that Annie had multiple disabilities (an amputated leg, mental retardation, and some form of mental illness) probably due to low birth weight and being… Continue

Book Review: Nelson’s Illustrated Guide to Religions – A Comprehensive Introduction to the Religions of the World by James A. Beverley

The first impression that I had was that it looked like a textbook. It is a big book with over 720 pages plus 70 pages for four appendixes and it has a lot of charts, graphics, and photographs. It is a guide to different world religions, giving you enough information without overwhelming you. The book is written from the Christian point of view but it shows respect for the other religions mentioned in the book. The average person will find it very… Continue

Book Review: His Name is Jesus - The Promise of God's Love Fulfilled - By Max Lucado

This is a beautifully packaged gift book with a cardboard sleeve to protect it. Wonderful photos and backgrounds complement the text. It is impressive when you hold it in your hands. The book is not big (9.4 x 8.5 x 1.1 inches) but has a nice weight/feel to it.

This will make a great gift for people new to the story of Jesus, whether they are young or old. Even those familiar with the Jesus story will also enjoy the book for its content and… Continue

Book Review: In the Footsteps of Paul: Experience The Journey That Changed The World by Ken Duncan

I received "In the Footsteps of Paul" by Ken Duncan through Thomas Nelson's Book Review Bloggers program. This book traces the paths that Paul is known to have traveled on each of his missionary journeys and provides scripture reference for those areas, quotes by famous authors and pictures of each area. I enjoyed the photography in the book because of the high quality photos the author used. I did wish the author would have expanded on the where the… Continue

Book Review: I'll Make You an Offer You Can’t Refuse by Michael Franzese

Subtitle - Insider Business Tips from a Former Mob Boss

This book is not at all what I was expecting. This is a very good book. The "Insider Business Tips from a Former Mob Boss" are totally different than what I expected to read about. I thought it would be one-liners with some short paragraphs but the message is there and it is complete. Michael Franzese is able to take his experiences and give you insightful tips on how to expand your… Continue
