The Great Shipping Debate

It has been brought to our attention, that our shipping practices are-- unusual. Are they?

To bring you up to speed, we use a waterproof packaging such as a bubble wrapped envelope. That doesn't sound too out of the ordinary, does it? Not really.

Here is the kicker... We hand write our addresses. Always.

Why, you say? Why not? When we started to research on how wasteful the Publishing/Book industry is, we took all parts of it into consideration. Shipping was included… Continue

The Kentucky Vein : Colleen S. Harris

The poems and essays in The Kentucky Vein deal with our connection to nature, exploring lessons learned from tobacco fields under harsh sun, the lifecycle of quarried stone, childless tricycles, and the grass of a new subdivision asking where the foals have gone. This collection is a rich symphony of images drawn from the Kentucky landscape, people and history.

Colleen S. Harris, assistant professor on the library faculty at the University of Tennessee at…

Philadelphia Shelter to Close.......

Hello Friends! We are back from Philadelphia. We all had a wonderful time in a very cool, welcoming city.

While in Philly...
Lauren Hammond (author of Love Sucks) and I were shopping in Downtown Philadelphia, Penn. on the last Friday in February 2011. Did you know they have solar/recycling mini trash centers on the street there? Amazing. Anyway, while I was failing at my attempt to look like I knew how to throw away garbage in Philadelphia this man came up to…

Angel on the Train to Dachau ~Colleen S. Harris

Angel on the Train to Dachau

I cannot dampen the stench

of smoke that seeps into the car

from the stacks above; I cannot

pull lovers together in this mad press

of too many bodies, or twine fingers

into love knots tightened fast

against chill jackbooted shadows.

I cannot pluck the unborn from

the warm clasp of their mothers’

bellies, or bleach fear from the eyes

of boys who have never known the slant

of dawn’s smile over the… Continue

Karen Kelsay- Winner of "The Funniest Piece"

THE LITTLE PRINCE

Who let that furry creature on the bed

and left him unattended, all alone?

Deluded cat, he thinks himself a king,

and boldly tries to snatch his parent's throne.

My comforter becomes his velvet robe.

My pillow; his embroidered yellow crown.

For now, he looks so sweet and undisturbed,

but later on, just try and coax him down.

Come out, you coward husband, pull him… Continue
