This week author Kathleen McCleary had her second book come out. Second. Not third or fourth.
She is being published by Harper-Collins.
A month and a half ago, my third book came out. The fourth will be out in a matter of months.
I am being published by myself.
On the day Kathleen’s book came out, all I saw on my facebook were references to it and shares and likes galore as well as when she would be appearing on morning news/magazine programs and the…Continue

Something unbelievable is happening. Something I have dreamed about and hoped about and waited and wished for, but in a “I want to be a success enough to keep on doing it” kind of way.
I’m selling books.
When my publisher folded I really got upset and thought that it would be years and years more of uphill battles before I found another publisher and re-started my career as an author.
But then the amazing hubs of mine talked some sense into me, helped me see the…Continue

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about the books and what it is I really want and why it is I’m really doing this.
You see, I love writing. I can’t imagine NOT being a writer. I’m not doing it for the sales or the money (which is good, since I’m not exactly raking it in) or for the notoriety. Okay, maybe a little bit for the notoriety. I *am* a bit of an attention whore. Just ask Shawn.
Actually a lot of this conversation was with Shawn. Because I have a tendency…Continue

Two books I am reading right now. Well, three if you count reading Mocking Jay to the kids, but I mean books that I personally am reading. I know, where in the hell do I find the time to read. Usually between about 11pm and 12:30 am or later, depending on how good the book is or how much trouble I’m having sleeping.
As per a suggestion from Jennifer Weiner, I am reading Stephen King’s book: On Writing. It’s incredible. As someone who never really got hugely…Continue

Maybe it’s just summer, which I love and always puts me in a good mood, or maybe it’s that I’ve been playing so much golf lately…and playing well, but things just seem to be falling into place a bit for me lately.
So, I had an email from my cousin Lesley. Well, she’s like, my second cousin once removed or something like that. Whatever. But, she was asking me about book distribution stuff. Like, why aren’t my books available in Chapters? Or even on the Chapters website? Well,…Continue

Jennifer Weiner has a thing on her website *for writers*. She has recommended that if you want to be a writer, you need to follow these steps.
1. The Unhappy Childhood
2. The Miserable Love Life
3. Major in Liberal Arts
4. Get a job
5. Write to Please Yourself
6. Get a Dog
7. Get Published
8. Find an Agent
9. Be a smart Consumer
Well, Jennifer Weiner (who I have had several twitter based conversations…Continue

So here it is, the part of the process in which I need to buckled down, stop waiting for the publishing fairy to arrive and wave a wand over this process and turn me into the Canadian answer to Maeve Binchy overnight. (Oh, and by the way, my writing was TOTALLY compared to hers once and I nearly peed myself with excitement).
So, what am I doing about it? Okay, here it is. I contacted the great and powerful Charlene, once sole proprietor of Crackjaw Publishing, the first publishing…Continue

I am no different from any other artist in that I have idols and writers whom I consider to be…well, as of yet, un-met mentors. Writers who inspire me, writers with whom I feel an afinity due to their words. Kelley Armstrong, Maeve Binchy, Jodi Picoult, Jennifer Weiner and Emily Giffin to name a few. As I have mentioned before, when I find a writer I truly love, I feel a strong need to accumulate all of their work. The above mentioned writers? Yeah, I have almost all their books on my…Continue

While everyone is getting excited that the rain has finally slowed down a bit and the nice hot, beach-y type weather is back again…and just in time for the weekend, I am doing a whole other kind of celebration.
My on air interview played on Wednesday AND Thursday nights (they are sending me the video so I can post it), my book is now live here and soon it will be live everywhere else!
Here’s something really cool, I…Continue
It’s coming! It’s close at hand. The official release of Spring Daisies. I just can’t wait to share the story of Sloane….yes, the spoiled little sister of Moira from the first book finally gets a voice of her own.
Of course, for blog readers, the book is already available here and (thank you SO much) there has already been a taker or two.
So here’s what’s going on in my world at the moment:
The delightful hubs of mine…Continue
