Right now I'm working on Mermaids in the Basement, which is a Salt Lake County Reader's Choice pick. It's a quick read, and I'm having fun with it.

I'm also reading Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far by Amy Grant. I'm not familiar with a lot of her work - except for the Christmas CD we listen to during the holidays. But I'm enjoying reading her essays - although the writing is somewhat uneven - interspersed with song lyrics.

The pick for my IRL book club this month is The Simple Plan. I'm the host, and I choose this book as a somewhat "creepy" one for the season. I read it a number of years ago, and it has really stuck with me. I need to re-read it this month since it's been so long, so I'll have the details down for our meeting.

My church women's reading group also decided to go "creepy" with Dean Kootz's Odd Thomas. I've never read any of Kootz before, so this'll be a new experience.

I'm trying to read at a two-book-a-week pace for the rest of the calendar year. I need to move a little more quickly if I'm going to make that happen.
