Hi, I recently read a great book of poetry. From the Cafe and Beyond by Nadia Hasan

One particular poem I found beautiful and I think everyone should read it.  I think it's a reminder that we are all beautiful.  Nadia kindly allowed me to share it, it's called The Worth of a Heart.

The Worth of a Heart

Once long ago,

I had no money to my name.

I traveled the country,

And wandered in shame.

My most prized possession,

Was my beating heart.

But I decided to sell it,

For clothes, food, and art.

I stumbled across a sailor,

Who bought and sold wares.

I asked him to buy my heart,

In exchange for money and fare.

He inhaled from his pipe,

And let out some smoke.

“Buy this piece of junk?

This must be a joke!”

I pleaded my case,

But he waved me away.

“A heart as besmirched as yours,

Is one for which I won’t pay!”

I cried bitter tears,

And gave into my sorrow.

“A heart as big as yours,

Should not even be borrowed.”

I opened my eyes,

And saw to my glory….

A kind-hearted Samaritan,

Who stood there before me.

“A heart is not measured,

By pureness or lack.

A heart should be measured,

By what it gives back.”

“Your heart may be battered,

But in love it is rich.

So your heart my dear,

Is worth every stitch.”

I smiled and cried,

For I’d forgotten to see….

My heart, though meager,

Is the best part of me.
