I thought that I had better give a quick outline of my Character Hoyt Lee from Devil's in the Detail. This is not in the book I simple drew from this reference throughout the book:
Born into a cult and largely overlooked by his parents, as they were by their own parents before them. Hoyt had been left with an empty heart. The chain of carefree parenting had been slowly untangling for generations as, one after the other, each successive generation of progeny were born and then discarded by their parents in favor of free love and massive gene pool. The sole aim of this cult was to breed the best possible human being and therefore create the largest gene pool possible to create in any one single human being.
Hoyt had been the last in a long line of carefully planned and executed pairings and he was the first and last of his generation.
The Police had intervened and split up the cult, jailing the leaders and dissipating the rest of the members back into society. The cult leader had committed suicide and left the other members in a state of utter shock.
Hoyt had been re-housed in a foster home and had gradually lost his sense of belonging. He had turned to drugs and alcohol but ended up falling prey to the very thing that he was bred for… Sex. He began his sex addiction at the age of fifteen and continued on until he finally snapped and decided to search for the missing piece to his soul. He was an extremely intelligent individual and knew well that his addiction was due to his wanton upbringing and his parents lack of regard for him. He needed to feel wanted, he needed to belong. This is why he found himself at the foot of the 10,000 steps in Tibet in a vicious monsoon and with a complete lack of direction. He had been seriously dehydrated and frightfully ill that day in Tibet and when the Monks found him in the morning he had been close to death.
From that day onward, Hoyt had felt happiness for the first time in his life. He felt the sense of belonging that he had never felt before. His unquenchable thirst for the female form finally abated and he was able to think and see more clearly.
His time had now come and he welcomed it with open arms.
