x-posted from my livejournal:

In book news of what I have been up to: Reading an e-book by the name of Logan Wolf Chronicles book1 STORM OF MAGICK (horror) by L.A. Burton.

My husband also bought me the first three Planetary graphic novels by Warren Ellis. I have some of the "floppie comics" of it, but missed a few issues and later dropped it due to the irregular schedule of publishing it. Figured I catch up with it later. Since the last issue is due out next week, it was a good time to get it. Especially as my favorite comic store was selling the GNs for half price. He also treated me by getting The Big book of Barry Ween by Judd Winick. I had some of the other issues, but missed a lot of them so this completes the whole set. I love Barry though he is foul-mouth, arrogant, super-smart 10 year old boy. This is definitely MATURE readers when reading this series due to the language if nothing else. Not for the easily offended. It is like Calvin and Hobbes on crack and and a VERY twisted sense of humor. Read this one while stuck at the garage.

I'm also reading Big Bad Wolf: A Novel of the Others (paranormal romance) by Christine Warren. I should note that this book is an expanded and updated version of the novel previously titled Fur Factor.

And a sci-fi novel called Courtship Rite by Donald Kingsbury (thanks to a special someone who felt the need to share the love and who also rocks my socks off with her awesomeness). To say I am excited about this one is an understatement as it is hard to find good science fiction novels that are truly different or unique. This one definitely qualifies going from the blurb.

I also managed to find The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2 for $4 at the used bookstore so I most definitely had to grab that as it had some of authors I read in it. Caitlin Kiernan, Jordan Summers, Caitlin Kittridge, Deborah Cooke, Patti O'shea, Carole Nelson Douglas, Justine Musk, Jennifer St. Giles, Jeanne C. Stein, Stacia Kane, Tiffany Trent, Nancy Holder, Jaye Wells, Diane Whiteside, Ann Aguirre, Larissa Ione are the ones I am familiar with. There are a few that are new to me that I get to try their writing which is part of the awesomeness of anthologies. Always a good way of exposing oneself to a new author (for good or bad).

I am halfway through Cold Moon Rising by C T. Adams and Cathy Clamp which focuses on fan favorite Tony Giodone (ex-mafia hitman, now were-wolf who gets into the most trouble of any wolf). It is part of the popular Sazi series which focuses on various were-creature groups ranging from snakes to wolves It was labeled as paranormal romance, but the ones that feature Tony in it are usually more urban fantasy which is why I prefer his as he has a snarky attitude and it is told from a MALE viewpoint for once. Rare to find books labeled paranormal romance that have first person narrative in a male voice! Plus, these have some realistic angles dealing with guns and research that I appreciate. Good and bad guys do run out of bullets at the worst of times. Things don't blow up easily like they do in movies so situations go to hell in a handbasket easily. All equals to good times for the reader. Read it once before, but needed to re-read it as that was during my drugged up on Nyquil nights where I don't always remember everything clearly. I don't like meds for this reason. It messes up my reading joy.

Okay, enough talk. Must finish up my reading. Less talk/typing, more reading = more reviews. I should note that reviews have been submitted to zines, but I have some I plan on putting here. One being all the books above. :) I was holding off on some reviews as I am waiting to post some recommendations instead of my "rants" and trying different formats to see which is quicker, easier and painless for people to read here so expect some weird experiments in the future. Or not. Depends on my mood obviously.
