The Great Shipping Debate
It has been brought to our attention, that our shipping practices are-- unusual. Are they?
To bring you up to speed, we use a waterproof packaging such as a bubble wrapped envelope. That doesn't sound too out of the ordinary, does it? Not really.
Here is the kicker... We hand write our addresses. Always.
Why, you say? Why not? When we started to research on how wasteful the Publishing/Book industry is, we took all parts of it into consideration. Shipping was included in this thought process. If we didn't hand write the addresses, our other alternative is to print out a shipping address and return label.
At first, we did do this on recycled label paper. But, then we considered even deeper. How much energy is used in not only making the paper, but making the ink, making the glue, and making the package that the fancy paper had come in? Just for us to throw it away (recycle it). Then we considered, what do our readers do with the shipping package once it arrives at their doorstep? Honestly? They throw it away.
So our question is, why should we add that extra bit of waste? The answer-- we shouldn't.
Let's go even deeper... Punkin House, is a house full of artists, writers, and creators. How awesome would it be, if we turned shipping into something beautiful? Use complete calligraphy for our return/shipping labels, in acid free or soy inks. Not only would the package be aesthetically beautiful, but it would be earth friendly and cost less than the wasteful alternative.
