It's May and here I am still no further into the final edits of "The Shadow Runners". I promised myself that I'd have this novel sent away to a publisher this year along with at least half of book two, "Mark of the Condemned" and the plot for book three, "Legacy of the Gildan".

So what happened to that, ey?

Too many balls in the air again. It's that old time management thing rearing its spiky little head.

I've been keeping up with my editing assignments, keeping up with the accounts and GST here, and... well... that's about it. With an art exhibition coming up in June I have to have all my paintings done by the end of this month. So far I've painted, um, two and a half. Yes. Guess what I'll be doing every day for the next couple of weeks.

The "True Blue Aussie Review" play I'm involved with in Beechworth is also into the home stretch of rehearsals. I'm in the band for this one. I play the flute and the bodhran. We're having loads of fun and rehearsing twice a week.

Add to all this a house full of visitors every weekend and all the cleaning, cooking, washing, etc. that it inevitably brings. Plus, this is a working farm and there is very little grass out there for our cattle due to the drought. We're feeding them at the moment which means little old me has to pitch in and throw bales of hay around.

Sounds like a great long list of nice excuses not to get my own writing done.

Never fear. I'm not about to launch into "I can't because" mode. I'm looking forward to spending some quality writing time with myself real soon. With all the computer work under control, I'll switch focus and use that time for writing. It's amazing how much you can get done in the odd spare 20 minutes or so between other tasks. It seems that I write better this way. Maybe that's a Virgo thing. We work at our optimum under pressure, in the middle of the night, or when there's no more than a mere moment or two spare in a day.

Yeah, I know. I'm crazy. But I'm a writer. It goes with the territory.

Cheers

Brittany K.
