Well, I finally took the plunge. After writing eight books over the past ten years, landing a legit agent, and coming within centimeters of getting published by a major house multiple times, I've finally decided to take matters into my own hands.
Highway to Vengeance was posted on kindle and nook, and I just purchased my proof from CreateSpace.
Now all I have to do is find a way to sell the thing. Luckily I spent a few years managing a Barnes and Noble here in Temecula, so I have a pretty decent group of contacts who've already read my books and enjoy them. (Or so they say.) They all swear they'll hand-sell the crap out of it, but we'll see how well that actually goes.
Another book is on the way, this one called Blood Money, and it's the one that garnered the most attention from publishers. I had a few editors talk like they were going to buy it but backed down at the very end. Painful stuff to say the least.
I've never been one for social networking (it doesn't mesh well with my anti-social Luddite tendencies) but in the last two weeks I've started a facebook account, a myspace account, a twitter account, this blog and one other. I figure if I'm going to do something, I might as well do it right. Give the book a chance to sell, at least.
As for marketing it, I've got a few ideas. I've been doing plenty of research but the work is never done. If anyone can point me in the direction of some bloggers who specialize in that sort of thing, that would be sweet. At least now I'll feel like I'm putting my MBA to use.
