Starla,

Let’s keep talking in English, as most people do not speak Dutch. Well, I stay interested in the Netherlands because my mother and siblings live there. I didn’t study English but theoretical chemistry! However I have been an avid reader since I learned reading and I have worked in the publishing industry for a long time.

I’d like to share a couple of awesome opportunities with you. First, Novel Publicity is currently recruiting bloggers for a gigantic holiday book bash. The other super cool thing I’d like to share with you is news of the ReaderShip. This is a great site for book lovers, because every single week there is a free book available for download. Hi Starla,

I know your pain, many traditional publishing houses are not very open to different genres; I just happen to write in a popular and very trendy one: Horror. It's a genre that has always work best in the small and independent houses, and therefore, there are many out there to apply for.

I truly hope the season will bring lots of new, satisfied costumers for you.

Good luck!

Starla, I lived in London for about twenty years. I'm a publisher and I also translate from Dutch to English.

Thanks Starla, unfortunately, small publishing houses have very limited resources and, though they do various forms of promotion, there is a heavy about of promotion that the author will have to take if he/she desires to see his baby's figures grow high. For me, it has been a great experience to learn from and I can't wait to repeat it, I just think that having different works with different publisher will serve better to get my name and work out there; now all I need is to find more people interested in my stories :)

How about you? Did you always knew you'd self-publish? I have many friends in the indy world and even though it is a tough act, I think it can be very empowering, too.

I wish you the best with your novel and I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

Enjoy your weekend!

Gina

Hi Starla,

Thanks for stoping by my blog. Book blogs is a great place to get to know people. I'm also new to the self-promoting stuff; being published by a small independent publishing house involves a lot of it, so please feel free to ask for help. I'll do my best.

Take care, hope to see you around.

Hi there, welcome to Book Blogs!

I’m new myself to the site but so far I've found it a great place to meet other blogger friends, so you’ve definitely come to the right place if you want to network with other book lovers and writers. If you’re a fan of paranormal fiction, please give my debut novel Perpetual Night a look. I’m planning to do a giveaway in the near future GoodReads (Click here for my Author Page). And here’s the link to my blog Diary of a Writer in Progress where I talk about my own experiences becoming a published author and review some books for fellow writers. I'll be happy to follow your blog if you follow mine!

Now tell me about you, your blog, and favorite books!

Hi Starla:

Sorry I didn't get back to you right away.  Things have been a little hectic around here lately!

You had asked me how Book Blogs was helpful to me.  My answer is a simple one.  Networking!  Since I joined Book Blogs I have increased the amount of traffic to my blog, increased the number of followers and comments.  I've also had an increase in the amount of review requests I receive from authors and publishers.  It's also been a great way to meet like-minded people.  Hope that answers your question and I hope you're enjoying Book Blogs.  Let me know if you need anything else.

Warmly,

Heidi

I believe that most professional editors charge by the word. I thought that it would be easier to charge by the page because I don't believe in having an author pay for contractions and articles like "a" and "the." My novels are currently with several agents and indie publishers for consideration. I'm waiting on feedback from them. But I promised myself that if I didn't have an offer for representation or publication by the end of the year, I'm going into self-publishing. :-) The freelance editing and proofreading is so that I can support myself in the mean time. I hope to work with you in the future. And if you have any writer friends in search for an editor or a proofreader, please pass my name over to them. Thank you so much.

Hello and Welcome! I'm kind of new myself - still figuring things out, but so far it seems like everyone is pretty friendly and willing to help/give suggestions if you get stuck, which is a very good thing since this place can be kind of overwhelming! If there's anything I can help with let me know...

And if you have a second, please stop by my blog - www.Jill-Elizabeth.com - I'm always happy to get comments and/or new followers!

Again, welcome and good luck here!
